Jerky Movement while in missions!

Post by gary.e.anderson »

I am having several problems.. First and the most anoying is the jerky movement when I try to move my units while in a mission. This does not change when I make changes to the video settings. I have tried every combination of settings I can think of still no luck. I am also having the grenade issue.. It will crash to desktop when I through grenades. I am pretty sure it is not my system. Dual SLI cards (brand is not relevent) with 4GB of ram. It is a dell XPS media center (XP Pro) and is updated. Also the game has been updated.. Not sure what to do.. The game looks to be a lot of fun, I am a big fan of Xcom but the followthrough on this game seems to be lacking.. I am reading many problems that are being reported but little responce from the developers. I am not sure if people are just putting up with the problems they are having cause they want a new Xcom game or have some issues been addressed?

Plz point me in the right direction.. Thanks!
What? NO not another crash!!!

I am having similar problems.. so far it's fine when I'm attacking a downed UFO but just now when I attacked an alien base my video and mouse gets "choppy" and skippy when there's alot of gas and fire on the screen.. I'm thinking some optimization in the graphics needs to be done on the developers side as my machine isn't a cheap slow one. I am on AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4800+ (2.5 ghz/core), 512 mb nvidia graphics card and 1 gb DDR ram.. all my drivers are up to date, dual core optimizer installed for XP, Direct X is 9.0c, windows xp pro, sp2.. all up to date.. minimal background tasks running (virusscanner and nvidia control panel app)

I couldn't wait to get this game as I'm a huge XCom fan, In fact I still play the 3 original XCom games weekly =)
Please get this fixed!

Also, It would be nice if the camera jumped back to the shooter after firing a weapon (camera tracks the shot then jumps to the guy who shot it afterwards). It would be nice to have an option to turn this back on.

Thanks

I ran into the same problem even with both patches and no mods installed. I found that every time I exited the game and then went back in without a re-boot I was get choppy graphics and a lot of stutters, etc...

I reboot my PC now before playing the game if I have exited it previously and haven't yet rebooted and it seems to work fine. It's almost like a memory leak ....

The tactical portion of the game is not well optimized and brings the strongest of machines to its knees especially when smoke, gas or fire is on the screen.

My mod has ALOT of optimizations applied to the tactical portion of the game to remove the slowdowns.  It has several options to speed it up even more if you have a slower computer.  If you can't stand the slowdown issues, get Bman/Coasty v4.07.  You can turn off *most* of the gameplay changes from an in-game menu to play something very close to the un-modded game if you like so you just get the speed improvements and interface improvements.

Read my post at the bottom of this thread for details on how to get/install the mod.  http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1501499&mpage=1&#1643593

Unfortunately, it does not resolve the grenade-crash problem.  That problem is somehow specific to certain computers and no one has discovered the cause.  You could *try* opening your sound-card properties and lowering the hardware acceleration and see if that fixes the problem but I am just guessing here.
