Hat Tricks

Post by Froonp »

Paradrop came from very far away.
Did you know this one ? As far as I know, this is completely legal.
Obviously, you need to be in combined or super combined action to perform this one.
Edit : Also, you need to have large activity limits, as this whole action consumes 1 naval move, 2 land moves, 1 air mission and 1 land combat.

It used to be like that. But current RAW says:
PARAs can only fl y a paradrop mission if they start their move in
supply and stacked with an ATR

While "start their move" isn't exactly a great definition, I believe the intension of current RAW is that the para needs to start the impulse stacked with an ATR to be able to paradrop. Curiously, the above move IS legal if there was another ATR in the starting hex, but personally I'd shoot anyone arguing that ;)

Wasn't there a trick in a previous incarnation of WiF, most probably no longer valid, where one of the Axis minors could be taken out by something like this? Bulgaria?

It's the sort of thing that makes one go "Ah!...but you can't...umm...oh jeez!...Oh, you've got to be f@#%ing kidding me! Oh, that's just great!" and so on. [:D]

"start the impulse in supply and stacked with the ATR which is to transport them on the air drop movement, and niether the para or the ATR can move before the air drop movement takes place."

RAW7 aug04 says :
**********************************
11.15 Paradrops
(...)
PARAs can only fly a paradrop mission if they start the mission in supply and stacked with an ATR.
**********************************
So the PARA and the ATR need to be stacked together at the start of 11.15.

Also, the question had been asked to Harry in the early days of WiF FE :

*************************************
"Is it possible to move more than once in a turn. e.g. Is the following legal:
1. TRS carries paratroop to Spain.
2. Paratroop walks to ATR which is inland.
3. ATR transports paratroop to Paris where a second ATR is waiting.
4. Second ATR drops paratroop on Berlin conquering Germany winning the game."
*************************************

Answer :
*************************************
Yes. We have set up the sequence of play, so you don’t need to remember if a unit has moved before (you may only move once in each land movement step however). Date:10/03/98

I've used the second one to give Japan a very rude awakening with Koniev going from Finland to Manchuria [:D]
