Scenario Results Issue?

Post by Prince of Eckmühl »

I've run into what appears to be a problem with the game scoring.

I tried out a quick-win strategy in the Santa Cruz scenario. Basically, I left the main portion of the IJN Fleet up North and sent the bombardment and assault forces at full speed off on their missions. Both missions were successful, and I was awarded the points. However, the game appears to have done something odd with the numbers. First, it doesn't appear to have added my points up correctly, and then it determined the game score by subtracting my score (as calcualted 163) from the U.S. score (as calculated 28), resulting in an IJN score of -135!

Confused?

See the .jpg, below.

BTW: It only takes about five minutes to do this, so I ran the game again and got essentially the same result.

I think it's OK. -135 is not "your" score, it's the one number for both players ie difference between US score and IJN score. Hover the cursor over Victory level and I think you'll get the point. There are five "levels", say -150 to -50 - IJN decisive, -50 to +50 IJN marginal, +50 to +150 draw etc. OK these numbers are not real, just an example of how it works. In a word - confusing.

Then there are "conditional" requirements. Did you lose any of your ships?

Yes I agree it could have been made more clear. And some scenarios have downright ridicolous victory requirements (both relative, and absolute ie "conditional") but we already have separate thread for that (hint hint HINT LOL [:D])

Nah, the scenario rules told me not to lose Shokaku or Zuikaku, so I left them to the rear. I don't understand the way the game added up my score. When I do the math, I get 313. Subtract 28 from that, and the result should be 285, an Axis marginal victory.

Yeah, we are operating under something of a documentation deficit.

As far as the scenarios are concerned, there are some pretty enormous holes in them, ones that a gamey-fish can dive straight through. And, in a sense, they play just as badly solo as in multi-player. For instance, were I playing a human, I'd never have sent my bombardment and assault TG flying down toward their mission objectives the way that I did (as described in my post above). I did it because I knew that I could get away with it. A competent human opponent would have killed that move, PDQ.

Yes I agree on the unintuitiveness of the Victory Screen layout.

Kudos though on the inclusion of special missions and penalties in scens.

Hi PoE,
I can reproduce that on this end. Looks like the bombardment isnt being counted. I'll check into this.
