Sorry you are having problems. Matrix have said all along that their installer does nto support Vista and while some people have managed to get it to work when the Run as Administrator, Matrix never said this would work. Can you show me where Matrix said there were NO VISTA ISSUES FOUND? The Slitherine version uses a different installer which seems to work fine with Vista and Matrix are trying to work out a way to do the same for their version. Unforteunately Vista has caused many problems for gamers around the world.

We are working on the full screen issue for the first patch I can promise you. There are some issues with displays who support 1024x768 but still for some reason fail to switching into full screen. We will patch it so that if full screen failed then game starts up in windowed mode instead of terminating. We had not running into any machine before release that failed the 1024x768 so that is why we never saw that problem, sorry for the inconvenience. Do you have a wide screen and does it support 1024x768? just checking so that I can get as much info as possible for the future patching :)

I beg your pardon...???? [&:]

I have just purchased this game (among others) from Matrix Games. Happenend to stumble across this thread.

Are Matrix/Slitherine seriously stating there are different versions of the same game available from each other? And that one might work/install under Vista (or anything else), but not the other???? I cannot believe my ears/eyes.

When I purchased I most certainly thought 100% that the version of the game would be identical from both. Slitherine would not deliver something different to Matrix, Matrix would not put anything on top of the Slitherine game.

I will say no more till I (hopefully) receive a response/clarification here...

The game code is exactly the same for both versions - it is a difference in installers that is causing the problem. Obviously Matrix have their own standard format for this and for some reason this is not 100% compatible between Vista and Java.

OK, Oh dear, and here we go......

First, Iain, I recall you from Slitherine, and from game "Spartan", which is still one of my all time favourites, my complimemts to you! [:)]

As for this issue, I am surprised and astounded. If I buy a "Hoover Mk III", I expect it to be the same hoover, whether I but it from Hoover or from one of their VARs/distributors/retailers etc. And if by *any* chance it is not, I expect the VAR to put a DAMN BIG SIGN ON IT saying so, and what's different. I do *not* expect to be told it's the same hoover, but the one from John Lewis doesn't work if I have the latest triangular plug holes whereas the one from the manufacturer does.

As the end user, could someone PLEASE tell me what value is being added by Matrix having their own installer on your product, which doesn't work under Vista while your own does?

OK, so now I've bought it via Matrix. As of today, I'm not running Vista, so it installs. But in a few weeks I will be upgrading to Vista. So, at that point, I could install the game if I had purchased from Slitherine, but not if I purchased from Matrix? Correct?

Had I come across Slitherine's own advertising first I doubtless would have purchased from you. But I did not (sorry). Perhaps that syas something...

Every publisher has thier own installer. There are probably 10-20 versions of Spartan and they are all the same but have different installers. It's just the way the publishing world works. Usually it does not cuase an issue but because this game is java based it has thrown up an unusual conflict with a new OS from Microsoft - Vista is causing many such issues.

OK, I hear what you say. Was not aware.

My company supplies software. Doesn't matter where from, you get the same product, installer, period. To me, I realise this is not your "fault", just doesn't reflect well, IMO.

Good luck with all.

I'm not sure what sort of software you make, but for games every publisher has their own identity and wants to brand the games their way.
