Post x.742 ROC Army Revisions

Post by el cid again »

Following China's Bitter Victory,

I conclude that the 5th, 6th and 66th Armies are the last strategic reserves of ROC in good shape -
and should be full strength units (unlike most Chinese formations which seem to be significantly below formation strength in line and support squads). I had to add the 6th and 66th as well.

It appears elements of them were present as divisions; 22nd, 28th, 36th and 96th. Other divisions included include the 38th and 200th at least - as manpower from these straggled into India after the defeat in Burma in 1942.

All three armies were sent to Burma - Chiang was reluctant to do so for fear they would be chewed up badly - and he was right - less than half the men returned to China. He felt they might influence other battles in China, but not if lost - and in the event they were not able to do that - because of horrible British performance in Burma. The Air Force was lost in a single attack. Artillery and logistic support were not provided. Notice of withdrawall was not given. It turned out to be something of a serious debacle.

Manpower from these three armies - supplimented by many men flown out of China - were trained into four more divisions in India NW of Calcutta (I let it be Asanol) - released in 1943 to 1945 -

38th in about April 1943

22nd in about Sept 1943

30th in about Dec 1944

unidentified in 1945 (possibly 28th, 96th or 200th)

These units were trained to US standards and became significant in operations in Burma in 1944 (well - two of them did) and were regarded as the very best ROC divisions. All are missing in this form from all forms of WITP but are added to the next RHS release.

Chinese HQ (except of course Stillwell's) increase command radius from 1 to 2 hexes.
Security increases from 1 or 2 squads to 9 (a company)

Stillwell's HQ remains a command radius of 5 hexes
Security increases from 1 to 3 squads of US Army infantry (the MP detachment)

Fixed the supply sink at Hemi - which was too big - eating more than was made!

Converted a former Soviet air station at Urumchi (somehow we had added one to the one already in CHS)
to ROC - the other one moved to Yining - to ROC service - and downsized the supply sink to the current size of the resources there.
