Universal Artillery suggestion

Post by MengCiao »

I was thinking that adding a universal artillery unit to the game might add depth.

The unit would be able to:
shoot over one friendly unit and hit an enemy unit
engage attacking aircraft within a one hex radius
shot at enemy warships either adjacent or by shooting over a friendly unit

The unit would be relatively cheap (say 40 pp or more than an infantry Corps and less than a motorized corps), but would use 1 pp every time it was moved by land or fired offensively. In terms of research, it could be treated as an infantry unit (as I assume are motorized units).
The corpus of a thousand battles rises from the flood.

When we get the patch we might be able to try this as there are spare unit slots in the script files, however They might need to be 'activated' before they can be used.

Unless stacking is introduced, which I hope it never is, I don't think artillery units work at this scale. Each hex is 20 about 20 miles wide. While some artillery was able to shoot this far, I say most of it was much shorter range and is abstracted into the shock value of the units already on the board.

Now, if port hexes had a built-in defence against ships the way cities have AA against aircraft, I'm all over it.

I could see this as a tech, hey wait it already is.. if we want to talk about the next game, having alternate units that "add" to combat makes sence
For instance a mobile art or anti air, adds to all the units within its corps range.. think about this like a hq adding power where needed.. could be used for alot of things.. I also like adding admirals.. and air marshels! We already have counter air... how about an option for panzer reserves to counter any attacks.. very much in line with a 20 day turn..

I could understand the Russians starting with that tech but I dont think they do but I am not sure.  Russian is the only army that built division and up artillery units.
