CPU's-Hard Drives-Graphics Card Comparison charts

I found this link by accident looking for new cheap games of course. lol Great comparison charts for cpu's vs cpu's and types. I never knew there were different types of cpu's of the same mhz. Hard-drive read and write rate comparisons and of course graphic card comparisons.

BTW how many of you have SATA drives?

Also anyone know if an ATA/133 will run where an ATA/100 drive was installed? I'm thinking about getting one of those ATA/133's since my MOBO doesn't support SATA or if it does I can't find the plugins on the board. EDIT: Although my bios supports SATA as it's one of the choices for which drive to use first. Do SATA drives use a cable that has an IDE end for the motherboard and a SATA pinned connection on the other end for SATA drives? Since I only have IDE connection boxes on my motherboard that's the only way I could see a SATA drive working???

I have two sata drives. The cables are smaller and look nothing like an ide cable.

One sata and one IDE running through sata->ide converter.

>Also anyone know if an ATA/133 will run >where an ATA/100 drive was installed?

Yes it will just run slower (100).

I suggest getting a new mobo with proper sata connections. Trend seems to be that new motherboards have no IDE connections at all so if you buy brand new IDE drive now you might not be able to use it in the next mobo.

Allthough you might be able to get a sata->ide converters when you uprade your mobo. They are very popular. I had to wait for 2 months to get one.

Holy crap now they are screwing with hard drives and their ability to be passed along to new motherboards? lol I know I'm getting out of the pc market now this is totally rediculous that an IDE hard-drive is not going to be supported by future mother boards. lol Totally a crock of crap to me. Nothing like forced upgrading is there boys and girls? lol I've got tons of information stored on my hard drives I certainly don't want to lost that information because of a GD cable connection and lack of support. haha

Yeah it was a PITA when I bought this latest PC. I had to spend literally days searching for a mobo that would be (1) up to my specs (2) have enough IDE connections for 2 harddrives & DVD-drive.

Luckily I found the sata->ide converter allthough there was only one(!) been sold in teh entire country by one(!) store. There were like hundreds of people inline waiting for it.

lol I can imagine. But, seriously they must know people aren't just going to throw their ide hard-drives away so these new mother boards and cable makers should be supporting them. At least until I die anyways another 20 years or so if i"m that lucky with all the chit I have I'll be lucky to make it to 60. lol

Most newer boards have only one IDE connector. They mostly have SATA as the primary choise for both hard drives and optical drives and the placement of the IDE controller is positioned in such a way it blocks the SATA ports.
IDE is an old technology and is really not worth it to the motherboard makers to build onto the newer boards.
Though SATA transfer speeds are actually not much faster going from 100/133 to 150.
SATA II or SATA 3.0 is not really possible to sustain, the mechanical drives just won't sustain those transfer speeds, you can go in bursts up to 3.0 but only in a RAID stripe you will really average around 120-140 or so.
Don't worry folks, until they develop a newer technology you are not missing out.
If you really want to keep your old IDE drives, just buy a pci IDE controller card for a few dollars and you are fine.
Or you can buy the converter , but I don't really see the need for that unless you use your main drive in an external enclosure.

It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

Yeah I had forgotten about those pci controllers you can install. Thanks Gem. ;) Now I won't have to get out of PC gaming afterall and can spend many more years on Matrixgames forums. ;) Providing they don't sell out to EA Games hehe

IDE should, of course, be supported in perpetuity. In 2540 motherboards better still supporting be them, regardless of any advances in technology.

Don't let the IDE go the way of:

I had to go stand in the cloak room for it though. ;(   hahah I would do it again anyway hahaha (Red Skelton)

you don't want to lose all that information because you don't have a cable? how about you lose all that information because you insist on hanging on to your five-year old IDE drive?

Don't you talk about my mom that way :)

Seriously, there comes a point in every peripheral's life when it's time to say goodbye. The redeeming factor with PC upgrades is that the latest equipment is usually cheaper than the old one was when you first got it. A 200MB Sata today is cheaper than a 60Mb IDE from 2002....and when you consider the mortgage required to fill a tank of gas and buy a gallon of milk these days, it's even cheaper compared to the old stuff.

You're right there Dinsdale, but, if I can't afford to drive my car to get something to drink that I can't afford either, well, I'm not going to be around long to use a SATA hard drive anyways. ;)
