Need Help with MP Game freezing

Sorry if this is a repeat of a previous question. I cannot find the answer anywhere.

I am playing CoI on a LAN, with two computers that are wired directly to the same hub (so, shouldn't be a problem there, right?)

Every time I choose to use a Conscript or Elite level unit in my force mix, the game will crash once both players select "next" and attempt to proceed to the map for force setup.

Anyone else have this trouble? Any solutions to it? I am, of course, assuming that the Conscript and Elite forces are the problem. I've tried on several occasions to reload and simply not pick anything but Regular forces and that seems to fix the problem. Of course, that's a very silly way to play.
