CSA can remake the turn in PBEM

Post by CeltiCid »

Hi, im playing a Pbem game with a friend. Im CSA, and we have noticed that the CSA player, once he makes his moves, he can just end the turn, view the replay, and remake the turn again if he wants after seeing the enemy moves...

I think this should be changed for fairplay. It is very tempter... will be?

Sounds like something for Eric. I've seen a bug like this talked about before in BF and BIN.

Well, i dont think this is really a bug...just an exploit. This feature enable a unfair play for CSA that dosent helps the fun.

I just want to know if this will be fixed, and if there is a way to avoid it.

Definitely not a bug. It's been months and months since I've played PBEM, so I can't remember, but does using passwords prevent this?

heres how the game works.

USA makes his moves. He cant see anything for this round. USA send the turn to CSA.

CSA receives the turn and makes hes moves/buys and so. Then finish the turn. Then the game makes a replay file. CSA should then send the next turn save and the replay to USA for the next turn, but he dosent do that. He opens the replay and watch what happened this turn. If there are something that he dosent like (Lees forces anhikilated, his capital under siege, any USA movement that just surprise him...anything)

Then he decides to remake his turn. He opens again his turn and make some changes in his moves....

then send the new replay and the new turn to USA, who will never know that the CSA player is a pig who uses exploits...

To open the replay file, the game just ask the side and the password of that side. So CSA just sellect his country and his password.

I think this should be fixed, allowind only USA to open the replayfile once the CSA finish his turn. Then, USA makes his turn and send the replay to CSA, who is able to open it.

Just an idea.

You make a good point about the CSA player knowing his own password. I wasn't thinking...

Is anyone having problems with actual PBEM cheaters, or is this still just a theoretical problem?

(The file formats are fairly open, and I've even posted the source code for loading/saving files, so if players really want to cheat they can just edit the save files.)
