1:
I've been playing with this one for a bit, and I figure not to do much till around turn 8 (~Nov 14) when 7th Cav arrives, then land them on X-Ray near the base of Chu Pong.

I read a bit about the battle and decided to follow the timeline. Up till turn 8 (mid November), I was just waiting, using interdiction, letting units get to ~100% readiness and supply, and using the 8th and 12th Cav units to help out at Plei Mei, attack some NVA units on Highway 14 or 19.

This is where I've stopped - sounds silly, but am I on the right track?

I fly the scout helicopters around, and I 'discover' tiny hexes that I can land on. Is this the right use for them?
