NEED HELP! ADVICE!!

Post by stall84 »

Hey all,

I was a huge HTTR fan... still play it every now and then. I personally love ground combat and the types of TOE's they ahve in these games.

However Grigsby's War in the Pacific is probably the best wargame Ive ever played.. simply bcause of the production factor and others I cant mention right now.

Heres the thing.. Ive already got both HTTR and WITP.

I can buy 1 new game under $60....
Should I go for Conquest of the Agean (and give some descent reasons why because HTTR seemed a little "lacking)

Should I go with War plan orange? (BB vs. BB) sounds like a lot of fun... I'd look forward to taking the planed out of the mix.

Or should I go with that new Carriers at War game.. which sseems overly focused on Carrier tactics in the Solomons.

HELP.!
ADVICE!
PLEASE!

I wanna make a purchase TONIGHT!!

Hi stall84,

Of the titles you mention above, I own HTTR, WitP, CotA, WPO and CAW.

I personally would rank them in the following order:

1) CotA
2) WPO (nice to have biplanes and limited cruising ranges)
3) WitP
4) CAW
5)HTTR

I rank HTTR last only because its engine has been eclipsed by the newer design from its developer, Panther Games. Otherwise, I would replace CotA with HTTR in the above.

I wish I could put CAW higher. It has a very clean interface and is extremely easy to play. However, it lacks depth and one can play through all of its scenarios in a week. CotA is again superior in this regard; the improvements by Panther to its AI, and the continued tweaking of its balance, have produced a very fine simulation of the demands of command.

Also, you get to play with the early-war equipment, and in the Greece & Crete theatres. How many games do you have that can do that? (Only ASL comes to mind in my collection...)

From your post, it sounds like you enjoy deep, complex games like Grigsby's designs (WitP and its derivative, WPO). Thus, I would say, go for either Conquest of the Aegean or War Plan Orange.

Just my 2000 turkish lira, since you asked. Hope this helps![:)]
