Allied PTO Transport Aircraft Carriers:

Post by el cid again »

The following aircraft carriers have or will have no air groups - now we know how to carrier qualify a squadron without a carrier to ride on:

USS Long Island
USS Copahee
USS Nassau
USS Barnes
USS Breton
USS Prince William
USS Santee
USS Natoma Bay

The following "aircraft carriers" will have gigantic "air groups" of five squadrons - but will never enter play. [Size of air group = Essex; armament = nil]
All have the Suffex "(Training)" and are date set not to appear at all. These 15 squadrons - previously assigned to the ships listed above - will appear on land - mostly or entirely at San Francisco.

USS Wolverine
USS Sable
USS Charger

The Sable and Wolverine were on Lake Michigan, were paddlewheel steamers with flight decks only, used to train in take off and landing (presumably out of Great Lakes Naval Station) - while Charger was an early CVE only used for training.

While it is not clear if or when we will "convert" 18 other (late war) USN CVEs to transport status, whenever another update for RHS comes out we will add 5 British ships to the list:

Chaser, Speaker, Arbiter and Reaper as CVEs

and the unique Unicorn - a "repair aircraft carrier" (similar to very little except perhaps Shinano)

for which the non-appearing Tracker and Searcher will serve as training carriers. [Each has four squadrons associated with it; size = the largest Illustrious, armament = nil]

At the same time, we will deliete four apparently fictional FAA air squadrons - the ones without proper FAA names whose names to not show up in searches or references - and we will replace them by putting other FAA units with carrier capable aircraft in the carrier qualified status now possible using the "training aircraft carriers" (which never appear).
These changes will not cause a separate release, but will be present whenever an update occurs. Since they occur late in the war, they are low piority.

EDIT: This material will be part of x.7591 microupdate - but there is no planned release date yet. EDIT TO RELEASE TODAY (1 Aug 07)

EDIT: To the above list of names, add

USS Chapin Bay (renamed first USS Midway, later renamed St Lo)
USS Didrickson Bay
USS Rudyard Bay
USS Saginaw Bay
USS Sargent Bay
USS Shipley Bay
USS Sitkoh Bay
USS Takanis Bay

For x.7592 or later update, we have added:

USS Thetis Bay
USS Tananek Bay
USS Wyndham Bay

The training carriers we have associated with the last 9 ships air groups (so they carrier qualify) are:
[Each has six squadrons associated with it; size = Essex; armament = nil] As above, none of these ships ever
appear in play - they exist in some abstract rear area - but being defined they cause the squadrons to be carrier
qualified.]

USS St Joseph Bay
USS Winjah Bay
USS Totem Bay
