Quick question about leagues

Post by grandmarquis84 »

I'm part of a group that is just starting an online league and we are trying to decide on a format. I'm wondering, to do Maximum Football, does every one need to have the game? Also, if anyone has ringnig endorsements of it, let me know.

You dont necessarily have to own the game. One of our owners in the PIFL doesnt own it.

Its similar to FBPRO, in that you can print out stats and rosters and such, so a person could still run his team. The only drawback would be whether the league uses stock playbooks or custom.

In a league using custom plays, there would need to be some sort of play pool or general use playbooks for that owner to choose from. Stock vs custom will result in the stock play user getting drilled a lot.

As far as ringing endorsements, im generally biased, so take my opinion for what it is :-)

I love the game. Im a FBPRO junkie who has been waiting years for a replacement. MaxFB, for me, is that replacement. It would be very easy for someone to nitpick the game to death. It isnt perfect. But it is, in my opinion, exactly what David Winter has always said it would be, and more. He has definately listened to his customers and made changes and adjustments when reasonable.
It is a good game for online leagues.

The rules variations are great, I play mainly 8man football on a CFL field.
Much customization, expansion, contraction of leagues.....seed your own custom playoff format.

There is an update coming soon, that should be the last big one, any after that would only be bug fixes....but David would be the one to clarify that.

Go here for specifics

For a league, everyone does not have to own the game, but that depends on the league format.

A draft and go league will have teams select players and precreated playbooks.  Often, team owners can set a depth chart as well. Then the commissioner will sim each week's games.  The commissioner is the only one who really needs the game, but it is helpful for owners to have the game to check out playbooks and player rosters.

In a standard commish sim league, teams can submit playbooks and gameplans.   Each player must have a copy of the game.

In a players and spectators league, the games are played live on the computer.  The "home" team provides the soda for players and spectators.  Obviously, this is only good for small local leagues, but it can be a great time.

Yes, but unless the league is small, it may be better to have at least one computer team to even it out. An odd number of teams requires one team to have a bye every week.

By the way, the default indoor league has an odd number of teams.
