Will not accept password for either PBM or hot seat.

Post by ulver »

When I try playing either hot seat or PBM (with myself just for testing purposes) the game will not accept my password when I try to open a saved game or continuing a hot seat game.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the game was no help. I even tried completely ghosting my computer and doing a complete reinstall of the OS – makes no difference.

Solo play works just fine.

I’m using an Aspire 1804 WSMi running windows XP. Others don’t seem to have this problem but would it be possible to remove the requirement for a password in a future patch? Others surely would wish to play without the requirement for a password if just for testing purposes

Using AMD Athlon 3800 running XP Pro.

Same problem here for hotseat. I haven't tried pbem, but that is my next step. I know some pbem games have started up, so it would be interesting to see if anyone else is having password problems. I am itching to pbem, but it isn't worth it if there isn't a fix. I cannot say I'm pleased with the bugs that are showing up here. I bragged about this game to my brother and a friend and told them it was worth the purchase and that I hadn't found any bugs - I was premature in my statements. It seems that beta testing should have picked up on some of the bugs that are cropping up in this forum. I don't like being critical, but my work involves process analysis and it's hard for me not to be critical about what is happening here. Clearly, all systems were not reasonably tested before the game was released.

Have you clicked in the window that asks for a password?

I don't know why, but you need to do so to actually enter anything.

Yes. I click on the text box and enter the password. I then click the command button and it rejects it, requesting the password again.

Again, are there others having this problem? I have the same problem on my laptop. Somehow, the password is not being recorded. Are there any special requirements for entering a password? I am using "CP" and "TE" to keep it simple. Do passwords require a minimum number of characters? Thus far I have:

1. Entered the passwords in upper and lower case;
2. Swapped passwords in case they were mixed up in file storage;
3. Run the game in both hotseat and pbem modes on both my desktop and my laptop. Same result.

The issue is the length of the password.  A minimum of five characters appears to be necessary in order for the password to function correctly.  Anything less and the program will not recognize the password.  Would have been nice to have had this info in the manual.

Oddly enough that tip works for me in hot seat games but no go for PBM – It will accept a central powers password but not the ET. Still really wish for a no password option

Fascinating.  6 characters works for pbem.  1 character does work for hotseat, but I haven't tried it for pbem.  A very strange bug indeed.
