Save bug in German version

Post by impi07 »

If I want to save with German language enabled, I'm getting a strange file name like "Tutorial 1.SAL.*.SAL". If I change the file name, I'm getting an error message "invalid file name". Overwriting a existing file is possible though. Switching to English and all is OK.
Is it the German Version or my Vista 64?

You'll need the 3.1.0.9 foreign language patch. Get it here: tm.asp?m=1168020&mpage=1&key=#

The problem might be that you started the game in english. I get an error message when i select german as a language, open a save file of a game that had been originally started in english and want to save. And i get no save file then.
However, it may be just the german language .dll. Loading a file originally saved under english with the french version and then saving gives no error message...
Starting in german and saving in german works.

Ralph?

Try putting this in your Operational Art of war III directory, or wherever you installed the Opart 3 program. Ignore the extra menu options, they don't do anything yet.[:'(]

The save game string has a special format that it needs to be in. I'm just not too sure how Telumar got it to work[&:]

Are you sure you put it into the right folder? Try loading a saving a simple game like Arracourt. Also, see if you have other language.dll files.

I just switched to German and opened and saved an Arracourt game successfuly.

Thanks,
Ralph

Still nothing. I have put it into the right folder, i use the foreign language patch, switched back to english and then again to german. But still an error message..

Yesterday i did it on a Win98 system, today on a XP SP2 Pro.

EDIT: The scenario editor under german doesn't recognize any sce files in the scenario folders. I then made a test scenario and tried to save it and guess what... "couldn't write file".

If you right-clink on the language.dll file, and look at the properties, is the size 540,672 bytes?

Telumar,
Can you search your disk and see if you have any other language.dll files, maybe in graphics or altgraphics?

Ralph, did Marc sent you a .dll or the translated files from the language kit before the 3.1.0.9 patch? I compiled the francais.dll for 3.1.0.9 for him, but so far there have been no problems with french.
Could it be related with the help/F1 bug in the german version?

I see why it broke. I hate Microsoft.

Normaly a 0 marks the end of a string. I just found out that there are a couple of exceptions. like the file open dialog. Unfortunately, XNResource mangled the file on me once, so I switched to the built-in Visual Studio editor, which stripped off the masks.

I'm off to try to find another editor, I guess.

Does this mean i shouldn't compile a dll with the MS VC++ Express Edition anymore? Can you fix the deutsch.dll?

The tools I've tried all have the same issue. I'm fixing it in the next patch. VC++ Express is fine.

I'll see if I can do something before then, too.

Telumar,
Please try this. I did some quick tests, and it seems to work. I've fixed it better in the next release. I named it German to distinguish it from the existing file.

That's why I explained why I named it that way. I wouldn't care to face you on the battlefield when you're angry[&o]
