AP attack vs. soft targets

SP3 had a bad habit of allowing mortors to be taken out with AP rounds. I think this is still happening in SPWAW. How come?

I saw this in SP2, but only for large mortars IIRC. I could shoot at 120mm mortars with AP rounds but not 82mm. I attributed this to the 120's being just big enough to hit with a flying chunk of metal but I certainly agree that its a dubious call to allow this.
