Starting a PBEM game

can someone remind me about the initial setup adjustments to start a PBEM game and send first turn??
my current opponent (German) sent me his first turn, but the main SAVE file has a .dat extension and when I try to open his files the answer is that the program cannot open the game data files.

Try using Windows Explorer to rename the file without the extension. For example rename "SAVEA.DAT" to "SAVEA"
