Aussie 2/1 (-) "K Force" in action

Post by el cid again »

I am running a head to head pre human test running both sides.

An element of the Australian SOF Company - assigned to defend Kavieng and nicknamed "K Force" in RHS in honor of the way Australia named small units, has survived three weeks of intensive ground combat. Hit by a Naval Guard Force landing from the sea, elements of an Airborne SNLF from the sky, bombed and bombarded on the opening day of the war - the force merely retreated down the trail on New Ireland towards Rabaul. After securing Rabaul, Gasmata, and Kavieng - I turned a regular SNLF loose on the position - only to find it retreated again - with no where in particular to go now that Rabaul has fallen. Examining the unit from the Allied side, I found it has a single, disabled support squad.
This isn't any sort of a threat - the whole unit only has 6 infantry squads, 2 sapper squads, 2 MMG and a little support -
but if it is allowed to survive the kernal would rebuild if it ever reached supply - which it could do by submarine. It is very irritating to have to chase down this tiny thing - or risk it coming back later - and one has the feeling SOF work far better than could ever have been intended in the game design.

Note these Aussie SOF companies and platoons - we have both in RHS - are not like the more numerous guerilla "regiments" in China - or other irregulars that appear in various territories as time passes. Those units are battalions - at least when at strength - albiet light ones - and some of them are semi-independent of supply requirements. They should be even more pesky - and more dangerous as they have more firepower. Other testers report they are not easy to deal with in China - nor safe to ignore - as they will cut your LOC.

In reality, those little forces (especially in Timor) did tie up significant forces for quite a while before they were evacuated/eradicated.

Nice to see that they can have some effect.

But in Timor I would rate the base as being in japanese control, just a pesky unit to build up my experience upon.

They were far to light to withstand any more than a "commando" raid.

In Timor you had a bigger force - and it survived - made radio contact - and was evacuated I think.
