What does it cost to build a tank unit?

12 arms and 1 manpower from memory.

Massively overpriced IMO, except for maybe manpower strapped France!  They have a strength of 1, 2 or 3, depending on tech.

In one of the scenarios (1916 I think) the Brits have a 3 point tank but haven't reached level 1 tech. I can't get it to fight though.

By the mid war the Brits should be looking for things to spend R&D on....they'll have maxed out in almost everything else already, and equipment shouldn't be a problem...but at the end of hte ar everyone will be hurting for manpower, which makes them a bit more attractive from that respect than assault troops.

Level 3 tanks ignore 3 levels of trench, and are likely to destroy 1 - meaning level 4 trenches are likely to be useless agaisnt them.  By destroying trenches they also increase the effectiveness of your artillery or non-tank supported attacks if they fail to take the hex - something assaault troops do not do.

Further AFAIK tanks help every unit attacking the hex - just 1 unit of tanks will have full effect in any attack - assault training only helps the units that have been through it - it does not help any non-assault units taking part in hte same attack.

This game is a bit deeper than your average mud puddle!! ;)

This is the crucial paragraph here - if so, tanks might be worth having after all (though they are one shot, I still think assault troops are better!).

If you're wrong though, tanks < assault troops.
