Well done on your 17-12 victory over France.

A great game...a great opener to the Rugby World Cup and a deserved win.

Only if Elvis is in the stadium watching... [;)]

Great win for the Pumas. France are in deep doo-doos now; the Irish are plenty good enough to beat them, too.

The smart money is on the All Blacks but they haven't performed well in recent World Cups (well...they were poisoned the day before the final at a function catered by a South African company in 1995 but that's about South Africa's usual speed. Eye-gouging, raking, professional-fouling pack of cheats they are and they always have been).

It will be interesting to see how the likes of Wales, Ireland, England, France and Argentina go. Surely Australia can't win another World Cup? Surely... [:'(]

Go Wallabies! Hopefully we bash up Japan tonight. "That's for the Thai-Burma railway!", I bellowed at the telly when we belted them 3-1 in the Football World Cup. "And Changi. And the Battle of Savo Island..." [:D]

Edit: (Whoops. This bit was supposed to go at the end of a post in the music thread. Oh well. [8|]) Speaking of enjoying the footy, Corey Enright getting his shorts ripped completely off and running around in his undies last week was great. I love a good sporting "dacking" and this was a beauty...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=V6tpvgcMykQ

The same thing happened to my Dad playing Rugby League in the late 50s and the damage to the shorts and jockstrap was such that his team-mates had to form a circle around him which then shuffled off the field like a Roman military manoeuvre to protect the modesty of any watching ladies. [:D]

roflmao.

I mean, as a Scot, I'm no ambassador for England, nor would they want me to be, but I had to go to A&E when I read that because I spat my coffee out over me!

I do wish the US well, as I do all the other teams...but you've got to know that the cup is coming back to Scotland....right? [:'(]

So, we can forget about England getting beyond the quarters in this tournament. Utterly awful. [:@]

Well done the US. I know the American attitude can tend towards the idea that any team in US colours that doesn't win is somehow letting the side down, but compare 28-10 to the drubbings dished out by New Zealand and Australia to other "lesser" rugby nations today.

Well said. 28-10 is no disgrace at all against a front-line rugby nation. England isn't rated at the moment and that performance doesn't auger well but perhaps it will put a rocket up their proverbial and get them going.

I thought Japan looked alright in the first half against Australia but they got blown away eventually. There were some Maori side-steps by the Aussies who had a huge weight advantage in many positions.

Indeed, my English mate said it was a good game.  I am still learning the nuances but appreciate the US did much better than expected and should be proud.

Well...Day 2 is over.

Well done to Wales (in the end). A very good start by Canada...rocked the Welsh, but pulling the ranks together helped Wales get out the mire

Congrats to South Africa (in the end) - 12-7 at half time was not convincing.

Well done Scotland - Portugal actually proved to be a strong side...a lot of good stealing (but an AWFUL lot of ungamely play - I thought the ref was going to have to replace his whistle!) - 56 - 10 is a great result...but Scotland need to sort out those basic errors. Against the big guns, they'll be punished.

Well done Namibia. I know Ireland won, but it was unconvincing. A lot of handling errors and this against the supposed weakest team in the World Cup.

Overall, I've been very impressed with the "lesser" teams. Notably the USA and Namibia...both of whom took on big professional teams and did themselves proud. The other "lesser" teams also held out well against the big teams...but there fitness proved lacking which is why the big teams eventually ran away with the games.

Ireland, France, Argentina group is looking interesting!

Hey

What do you know. More congratulations for Argentina. Once again though a tough show by the underdogs Georgia...good first half and pretty strong second half until the fitness wore off.

That group has really opened up.

Argentina are looking good this year.I thought Canada played especially well against Wales but that was probably due more to a lack of depth in the Welsh squad, bloody good effort though [:D]. The SA v Manu Samoa game was a cracker, Burger was typically dirty and I see he got a well-deserved 4 game suspension today.
We're taking bets in my house to see if the AB's can post 200 points on Portugal.[:D]

things start getting fun tomorrow... England against South Africa

the only place near me that is showing the Rugby World Cup is a South African pub, and because of Setanta they have to charge $20 a day per person [:@]

$20 A DAY PER PERSON!!!

What a rip off!

I, on the other hand, can sit in the comfort of my living room, with a beautiful woman serving me chilled Stella and have the volume up as loud as required [:D]
