Frontal Assaults

Post by dolphinsfan9910 »

I love that you all have put in several different tactics into this game. I guess this is done at random?? One small issue.

Occasionally the tactics and situation on the screen don't match up.

I went for the assault on Petersburg and instead of the 10,000 or so Confederate troops manning the forts, they full frontal assaulted me. I have about 70,000 troops of my own, and swooped in and captured them all. Had they "manned the defenses", I would have been bloodied badly.

The AI for this game is better than most, just a few tweeks needed. Each patch the game seems to challange more, which is great. The Computer has handed me a few hard setbacks, but never goes for the kills.

The "bulk" of the Confederate Army seems to very seldomly venture out of Virginia, allowing the Union player to be the actor, while the Confederates remain the reactors.

I would crap myself if the South made a dash North.

You were playing detailed battle when the CSA came out if its forts, or was this on the strategic level?

Tactical level. I noticed this again today while attacking Petersburg at the tactical level.

The CSA AI Virginia forces at the strategic level do have a small chance of making a dash into northern territory -- I'm afraid that making this chance too high would just make the CSA too reckless and that the best US strategy would become sitting back and letting the CS armies skewer themselves in Maryland.

We thought about adding a rule that would give the CS a bonus if it wins a battle in Cumberland province.  The South had hoped that if they'd won there that there would be an uprising in eastern Maryland.  Such an uprising probably wasn't very likely, historically speaking, but it might be neat if it had a chance of happening.
