Version 2.0?

Post by grandmarquis84 »

Currently I am part of a league that is using an interesting system of determining winners, it's our first season. Next season we are going to try using MaxFB and I found out that we can't carry leagues over from one update of Max to another and so I am wondering when version 2.0 will be coming. We probably wont' start till March, so what is the timetable for version 2.0?

Let's just say the update will be ready prior to March.  [:D]

Many things will transfer over, but the depth charts and some other files have changed.

I got one of my older league's running on version 2.0 and everything looks okay so far.  But It's recommended to reset your league

If it's anywhere near March and version 2.0 hasn't been released, I'll be extremely disappointed in myself (as will a great number of others I'm sure).

Some portions of the league files have changed from version 1.n to version 2.0. This was requried to both add features as well as address some of the issues that have been found with the older versions.

I will recommend that anyone with a version 1.n league moving to version 2.0 reset their league to avoid problems.

thanks

The game resets everything back to day 1.

The league is clean and new again.

For ongoing leagues, it may be a good idea to look at saving files that can be brought over.

I have not done this in a while, and not for 2.0, but perhaps Tbird or Tullius have.

Then please, please, please tell me that this will be the last time we'll have to reset our leagues after an update.

I know there's one other thread out there about inputting NFL rosters, and I really, and I mean REALLY want to make a comprehensive CFL Roster. Including imports and non-imports and Colleges. It's been asked for elsewhere, and I'm itching to do this, but if the league has to be reset after every update, then there's no point in me even attempting this project as it would be a waste of time. Everything would be lost once the Roster is reset.

Unless anyone can think of a workaround...

The reason for these resets is to ensure that the database content matches the version of the game. While the game does update the database structure (automatically adding tables and fields), it can't fill in missing data. If you have played 3 seasons of a league, and update to a new version that tracks new stats or has other changes, then I can update the database structure, but I can't fill in the 3 seasons of missing data.

For version 2.0, I have a minor update planed post release, but it does not include new features. So, I would think that until version 3.0 comes along, the databases will be stable. That said, I am afraid I can never guarantee that 100%.

I might be able to create some form of additional tool that resets just stats and not the rosters, but even that I can not be 100% sure of.

I'm open to alternative solutions.

[edit - rephrase so it makes a bit more sense]

thanks

So let me make sure I'm understanding everyone, if you reset the league if wipes away the current players on the rosters?
What if you save your Players table before you reset the league, and then import it after? Will it cause the database to be off?

I've done that before but not with version 2.0

unless there's some new columns that we're added to the players table it should still work [8D]

That's good. I figure I could also export it to an excel file then copy and paste afterwards.

I would just like to clear this point up.

Release of Maximum-Football 2.0 isn't going to be anywhere near as late as March 2008. That is why my response has a smiley.

Most of the community members who have been reading the board lately have read that there is no specific date set, but the release of 2.0 will be done soon.

It is a good time for leagues to start prepping owners, teams, and uniforms.

Can't wait to see the new graphic anamations and the like.  I have already simmed three seasons of my uber CFL, but if the graphics port over, I can do it over again.  The way I see it, it's like a brand new game ... basically for free.  If we had to shell out another 40 for a new version, I doubt many of us would be worried that our stats carried over.  I'd be more concerned that I'd just wasted money, personally.  Just another reason I'm so impressed with this game.  I feel like I've gotten a great value for my $$$.  Thanks Dave
