The German "Waffentrupp"

Post by KG Erwin »

This 12-man weapons squad looks interesting, but none of the ENH formations include them. So, what I've done is change one of the SSVT squads, removing the Kampfpistole, putting the StHGr in slot 2, and placing the MP38/40 in slot 4.

In my customized German OOB, then, an early-war Waffen SS platoon (zug) has a Zugfuhrer (Zug Kommandant), three of these SSVT squads and a Waffentrupp (50 men altogether). This gives each platoon a Panzerbuchse and a 50mm mortar.

I went a step further, and created my own semi-motorized SS Kampfgruppe formation:

Kompanie Kdr
Three Waffen SS platoons
Two SS MG sections
Mot mortar section (81mm)
Mot Inf Gun section
Mot AT Gun section
Mot engineer platoon

This organization has plenty of heavy weapons, assault capability, and AT capability. In theory, it could operate independently, with or without armor support. It is the basic building block for my reinforced SS battalion.

Look in the Waffen SS KP until 1944

This is only in the latest German OOB patch BTW

Here's something that needs to made clear -- the Waffentrupp 50mm mortars do NOT have indirect fire capability.

The Germans used those light mortars like rifle grenades, BUT could use indirect fire IF set up as separate units. When included in a Waffentrupp, they are treated in a direct fire mode, similar to a rifle grenade in game terms.

Some Japanese units have the so-called "knee mortars" imbedded in them. Same principle.

Gunny  (and anyone else i suppose), for your own personal OOBs, actually you should make a copy of that weapon #40 I believe,  paste into an empty weapons slot, and reclass it as a secondary infantry, then issue that one to the waffentrupp.
Not sure it will really have all that much effect on anything but, just to be politically correct..
