Thinking about buying

Post by moose1999 »

I was thinking about buying this game.
I already own WitP and enjoyed playing it some years ago.
Now I wanted to pick it up again and thought I might as well get the sequel for a change of air.

But as I remember WitP had several pretty serious issues back then - is it the same thing with WPO?
I can usually live with the issues that comes with a game of great complexity (complexity always has it's price) but I was just thinking, that since support for WPO seems somewhat limited compared to WitP, the game might not have progressed as much as the 'father' in terms of improvements to the game engine.

So, do you guys think WPO is on par with WitP concerning patching or is WitP significantly ahead in 'patch cycles'?

WitP has advanced beyond WPO, when it comes to patching at least, but that doesn't mean that you don't get a perfectly playable product. Just be sure that you understand that WPO is primarily a PBEM product; the WitP AI is weak, and so is the WPO AI...

Hm, I see.
I only play against the AI, never tried PBEM.
But are you saying the WPO AI is worse than patched up WitP AI?

You'll also miss many of the debatable issues of WitP. Almost all of them aircraft related (Zero bonus, UberCAP, FLaK gap, 4e low level bombing Etc, etc). The game turns are much quicker, there is less to do. Where as I can squeeze out two or three turns in WitP, I can churn out six turns in WPO. Also, because it never happened you can't be yelled at for playing "unhistorically"[:D]. Ground combat is also different in that there are fewer units.

My only gripe with WPO is the AI. It's way too timid. I might have ti bite the PBEM bullett.

I have a question about WPO and UV. Which has more/better in game tutorial scenarios to get a feel for the game?

Probably equally good or bad, depending on your view.
