The mobile ground units can be placed like ships via the formation editor.
Fixed Groundinstallations are simply at one point.

So if you add fixed AD täo a Base it is simply there. If you add mobile units to a Base you can group them via the formation editor

let me see if i have got this

mobile ground units can be grouped together and the formation editor applied to that group?

mobile ground units can be attatched to an installation and the formation editor applied to them?

can the positioning of fixed ad units be adjusted/selected when assigned to an installation during the the scen editing stage or are they just there?

Yes. You add them and arrange them in a formation just as you would with ships.
mobile ground units can be attatched to an installation and the formation editor applied to them?

Yes. The installation will always be in the middle of the formation, and you can arrange your mobiles around it.

Yes. You can adjust their position during scenario editing to put them in the position you desire. For example, you might want your point defense SAMs and AAA clustered in the center around the installation. Area SAMs further out, and MANPADS still further.

I think there´s a little missunderstanding. Fixed ADs are installations. You can change their position, but you can´t assing them to other installations. It is not like H3 with facilitys and Installations. In HC you have mounts on installtions but no facilitys, so an HC installtion is equivalent to a complete base (installtion)in H3 build with/from facilitys having mounts and/or sensors.

Yes, sorry. If by Fixed AD you mean those that appear in the Installations Annex, then Rene is quite right.

There are some air defence units (in the Ships/Mobile Land Units annex) that are 'fixed', i.e. not mobile.
