Please help a big dummy

Post by Hanzberger »

Hey I want to get started on a game, me allied, them AI. Someone plz tell me exactly all the files I should get to do this correctly. Also I think I may have had the same problem with the ship files, so how do I completely remove WiTP, before doing a new fresh install.

Hanzberger, I assume you are talking about RHS, right?

First off... if the RHS readme thing is still the old one, do torch it for good. It's incredibly chaotic.

Second, once you have installed WitP itself, just install the RHS map (in the ART folder). Then copy ITS pwhex.dat file in the "War in The Pacific" folder (a map is totally useless without its correct pwhex.dat file). Let's say you will be playing Level 7. If possible download the most fresh pwhex.dat file: from the "RHS AK Dreemer" site or the "Cobra Aus download files" thread. Your pwhex.dat should be something like this: a zip file with this name (it's only an example): "pwhex.dat 7.7xx".

Now you have the map correctly installed.

Third, install the scenario you want to play (EOS, CVO, etc.) in the SCEN folder.

Four, the SHIP art. We already told you what you should be doing (delete default ship art and install RHS new one: if possible the newest release).

Then you have the "optional" art: icons, planes. There are as well optional new sound files. You have to install the art in the ART folder and the sound in the SOUND folder. [EDITED]: no, wait, I think the planes art must be indeed installed (especially if you play RHSEOS scenario). Ok, only the sound files are optional.

And that's it.

As for removing WitP, use the Windows manager thing.

Ok seems that everything is working thanks~! I just gotta fix the startup open load screen. I do see ships. I also see that Japan has invaded Hawai~! Any tips ? Is there a short manuel version that has been somewhat updated to refresh my memory on how to play this thing again, Its a little overwhelming, esp with such a big map and the invading armies so close to home. There is the RHS Manual about specifically RHS things.

There are three open load screens - CVO, BBO and EOS - for RHS which are pretty awesome.

Hey guys thanks for bearing with me. And thanks to you fellow gamers for making a great game even better [&o].

About a year ago I was playing and stuck with it until 3-4/42. It was fun but had a baby. Now things are coming back to me slowly. I had a question back then that never got answered so I will ask again here.

When viewing the allied ships...is there anyway of switching the sound file so that stupid alarm isn't going off. I thought in the stock game that only when the ship was in distress it did that, but it does it for all ships with that sound file.

2nd) It seems like every base is building forts, is there something I missed to switch this off or do you guys suggest leaving it on. I thought it used supply pts or something.

Yes I started reading the RHS handbook but Cid said it needed to be updated so I stopped and wasn't sure where to turn.

In the game options screen you have to deactivate "set all facilities to expand at start".

Hanzberger, I agree with you. That alarm is quite annoying [:)]

Well, that is one of the "sounds". The file itself has to be in the SOUND folder.

Now 1) you should identify what is the name of the particular sound (a systematic, donkey job, since you should play every file with a Media Player until you find it).

and 2) you should delete that sound file.

BUT I don't know what happens when the programme (with sound turned ON) looks for a sound and does not find it. Does it crash to desktop? It if doesn't, then "my" workaround should work.

EDITED: and if it crashes to desktop, you still have another solution. Just use another sound (which you like; or just a small wav [audio] file which does NOT contain any sound). Then rename it to the name of the annoying sound file.

El Cid Again, oops, sorry if I haven't answered before. Well, I think there is a little confusion. Yes, I said "new sound files" but in fact I am using the "old" set. When I wrote "new" I was thinking about "non-stock sound files".

RHS uses its own plane and ship art. And don't forget the right PWHEX file.
