Interface suggestions for naval

Post by SMK-at-work »

Something that I keep screwing up time and time again is allocation of transports and DD's for the brits.

It occurs to me that it might be a bit easier/simpler for some aspects of the naval game to have a system that lets you allocate some ships by count rather than by individual ships - mainly all functions for transports (since no other sips use them), but also ASW - since only DD's can use it.

Something like you are presented with the sea zones, and beside each is a list of the missions available with up arrow and a down arrow and the number of ships currently allocated to that mission in that sea zone - you click the up arrow to allocate a currently available ship to that mission in that sea zone, or a down arrow to remove one currently on that mission (ie it sets it to "return"). Part damaged ships would be allocated last, or returned first.

This wouldn't quite work for other naval units because many of the ships have different stats - eg you may want to allocate your stronger BB's if you think the other guy is going to sortie even if they're a little damaged, so individual ship allocations would still be made for CA's and larger.

Just an idea in passing....

Welcome in the club [8D]

With regard to your suggestion well I find it somewhat complicated [;)]

I think the Brits will be indefinitely more easy to handle with 1.2 and naval endurance synchronized to the game turn.

It'd be good if it was made very clear to which region each ship was assigned. So it didn't just say '(shipping)' but '(shipping - North Atlantic)'.

I confess it's also unclear to me whether if I have ten British transports set to shipping in the North Atlantic, I also need three French ones in that zone for the Froggies to get their resources through (ie are the shipping requirements national based - as I believe - or alliance based?)

A mission screen similiar to the air allocation screen might help. At least you would be able to see in one table what you currently have in each zone.
