Unexpected Error -2146232060

Post by Hugin »

Just bought PS2007. Now I always get this error when creating the database after selection the a Puresim Classic Quickstart game deselecting the use of Finances. The game seems to work afterwards. The error seems to be no showstopper but it is disturbing. Is there an explanation?

Yeah, I think so. But the errormessage is strange, but maybe a hint for the devs?

Its not a development side issue. The problem is in your specific computer.

OK, can be. But how do you know that? What hint gives you this errormessage/number? I am a programmer myself and usually know why my programs show errormessages. At least I could say: "Errors like this and that come from program execution. Unexpected Errors come from external dll calls, which return with an error, which the program cannot handle. External calls are done to Directx, blah blah." Just saying that it is in my specific computer is not really helpful. I know that it is not easy to program/test Software for a wide audience on every possible system and variation. What you say sounds for me like: "It's your fault, don't bug me anymore". No offense.

To be clear, Tim is not affilliated with PureSim or Matrix.

Now for some questions:

1. What version of PS are you running?
2. What version of Windows?
3. Does the error happen only on Quickstart?
4. If you check the "Use Finances" does it happen?

Thanks, I'm sure we'll figure it out!

I am in the same boat to a certain extent. I just purchaed the game last night and downloaded it. However, as soon as I hit play it says unexpected error. I am pretty sure I have the latest version and I think I have the correct Direct X etc. I do have Windows Vista. I am worried that could be the problem. Does the game have issues with Vista? Help! :-)

I've run PureSim on Vista, Windows 2000 and Windows XP, so I can personally attest that it runs just fine on all of those platforms. The only VERY MINOR little bug about running it on Vista is that I always get the pop-up asking if I know the program, if I'm sure I trust the program, blah blah blah. It's a Vista thing and not a PureSim thing so I've never griped about it.

Thanks for your reply!

1. What version of PS are you running?

1.70 (installed

2. What version of Windows?

XP v2002 SP2 (running on Athlon, 1Gb RAM, DirectX 9.0c, current ATI display drivers)

3. Does the error happen only on Quickstart?

To this moment I only worked with Quick Start, getting the error.

4. If you check the "Use Finances" does it happen?

This is what I tried today:

Puresim Classic finances on, all other default
+) randomized nicknames,
+) finances at least 137.500.000
+) assosciation customization options - default
Result:
no error (draft also no error, start spring no error)

Puresim Classic Quickstart finances on, all other default
+) assosciation customization options - default
Result:
no error

Puresim Classic Quickstart finances off, all other default
+) assosciation customization options - default
Result:
the error from above. Since the screens switch so quickly, I can't say when it occurs exactly, but it is before the automatic draft. Afterwards the game seems to work without any problems.

I hope, this helps.

Btw when I tried to sim the entire season the sim stops somewhere and the game begins to behave in a strange way resulting in the runtimeerror 3061 after clicking Quick Sim the next game. Seems to be the same like in thread Run time error 3061. I am using a German Version of Windows.

News from today:
I tried again Quicksim with finances on and got the unexpected error -2146232060 again. *sigh*

I tried the game on another (relatively new) PC (also WinXp, but Professional Version, different Hardware, recent drivers)
Same here, the unexpected error -2146232060 even with finances on.

And here also the problem with simming the whole season persists. It stops in September, none of the icons at the bottom pf the screen are clickable and after clicking Quicksim the next two games the runtime error 3061 arises, sending me back to the desktop (!). The errormessage is in German (my translation would be: "1 parameter expected, but too few parameters were given"), so it may be some dll conflict???

Hmm.

I wonder if it has to do with being the German version of Windows.

Is there a way you can set your windows international settings to US-English just for a test?

Hugin,

Can you download this fole and extract the enclosed PureSim2k7.exe over your existing one? Then run the game to the point when (if?) you get the error. Hopefully if it doesn't fix it you will be prompted with a dialog and an option to send me detailed error information.

Hope this helps us track it down!

Thanks for the support. Now I have done several testruns.

With the original version and the systemsettings (region) changed to US English the following happens:

the unexpected error -2146232060 persists,
the shown date is now in English (otherwise all weekdays are shown in German)
I can sim the whole season without any problems as often as I want, no strange behaviour, no crash to desktop

With your debug version and the systemsettings changed to US English the following happens:
the unexpected error -2146232060 is gone,
the shown date is now in English
I can sim the whole season without any problems as often as I want, no strange behaviour, no crash to desktop

With your debug version and the systemsettings changed to German the following happens:
the unexpected error -2146232060 is still gone,
the shown date is now in German
Season sim ends in September without any message about the ending, and an errormessage arises.
The debugmessage shows:
Error 3061
Desciption (German) 1 Parameter erwartet (expected)...
Module: CWorldInfo
Procedure: WorldInfoDate[Let]
Line: 373
Version: 2.0.146
afterwards crash to desktop

I hope these hints are the information you need.

Another thing I detected, when I made the testruns above:

The retail version as well as the debug version crash to desktop after showing an error if the following is done:
(XP settings - US English)

delete all associations in the load screen
click quickload

then the retail version brings the error:
Upgrade Error
PureSim Baseball 2007 was unable to upgrade the association from version 0 to version 388 Detailed Error Desc:Object variable or With block variable not set

the debug version brings this error:
Error 91
Description: Object variable or With block variable not set
Project: Puresim2007
Module: modGlobals
Procedure: openMainRecordset
Line: 7030
Version: 2.0.146

This does not happen, if the game was restarted after deleting all associations. Then the ingame message appears, telling that no assocs are available.

Hugin,

I have another patch I'd like tou to test (with German regional settings ON).

http://www.puresimstudios.com/puresim2k7_debug2.zip

(Note this patch does not address the "delete all associations and then do a quick start" issue as I can't duplicate that one yet.) But it should address the more critical issues you encountered.

BTW, I apologize for your troubles, it looks like some new issues have crept in on non-US versions of Windows (I need to add you to the beta team for next year's version!)

You are welcome.

With the new debug version the program behavior changes slightly, but the error is still there.
The sim of the entire season stops at the end of August (former version stopped at the beginning of Sept.), bringing the message:

Error 3061
Desciption (again German) 1 Parameter erwartet (expected)...
Module: CWorldInfo
Procedure: WorldInfoDate[Let]
Line: 382
Version: 2.0.147

ignoring the error leads to the normal ingame information message:
"Expanded rosters ..."
afterwards the next day is simulated, leading again to the error 3061 message. Ignoring it brings the "Expanded rosters ..." message, always ignoring does not help and aborting brings me back to desktop.

Btw: one thing I saw at the end of the automatic order rounds: the counter usually goes up to 61/60 (in the top left corner of the screen).

The new debugversion also works properly if I set the region to US English again (I quickliy simulated through two seasons).

Strange, that is the exact line I fixed here!

Would it be possible for you to send me the detailed info in an email? When you get that error it should give you an option to send me the info via email (it should crank up your email and then prompt you to press ctrl-v. This will paste a TON of info into the email. That is *exactly* what I need.

I wonder if I forgot to put the fix in the one I sent you? Just in case try the official 1.70d hot fix too.

Thanks!

Will be underway in a couple of minutes.

I recreated this also with what I think is the Hotfix version now (2.0.148). Please See the email.
