Random Scenarios

Post by October »

Enoying this game and learning much from all you guys, thanks...[&o]

Would someone be so kind as to post their opinion for the settings for a medium difficult and difficult random scenario? I know people's idea of these versions will be widely varied... I hope I don't open a can of worms with this post. [:)]

Hi October, welcome to the forum :)

It's difficult to say really as difficulty for each individual is probably different. Also, there are lots of ways you could alter a random battle to affect the difficulty.

If you have some experience of the game then probably AI+ would give a good medium feel. You could also increase the map size to maybe 40*40 and put the towns up to 15, or 25 so the AI will have more towns before contact and so have more units to play with.

For difficult you could up the AI to ++ or could have 2 AI's to fight against.

If you're new to the game then a standard random setup (default settings) with normal AI would probably be enough for a good challenge.

I really struggled against normal AI this evening, but yesterday I won on AI+ so it does vary from game to game depending on who gets the best towns first.

Play a few games on various settings and see what works for you :)

Hi October,

Welcome to the mad house! [;)] You'll enjoy AT, it's a great life stealer.

As for random maps, I'd agree with Banquet. The default settings are pretty good and will give you an idea of what the game is capable of. Don't let the "normal" AI setting fool you, it does play quite a good game. I also like setting up maps that aren't square, so I often play 20 high by 40 long, with rivers set to 1, mountains 5 and towns at least 10. So far, I've found this to be quite suited to the AI and it seems to beat me a lot more than with 20 by 20 maps.

Playing AI+ or AI++ will be a real challenge, no matter what settings you use. I don't use either as I'd never win a scenario hehe! I'll leave that to the grognards! [:D]

Regards,
Jim

Richard Winters: We're paratroopers, Lieutenant, we're supposed to be surrounded.
