why should I get this?

John Tiller's Battleground Series is a Hall of Fame lineup of games covering the Civil War and Napoleonic Wars. We've compiled these classic games into two new affordable collections, incorporating updated versions of these legendary titles. Incredible historical gameplay and great value!

why should I get this?

I have both titles modded with the 32 bit "patch" and they work fine with XP ,is there anything new in this package? Like graphics? [&:]

Convenience... trying to install the original BG series with multiple patches and then the John Tiller 32 bit updates was very time consuming even for a single title, let alone the entire series. This gives you a ready to install copy with all updates incorporated plus VISTA compatibility for the future.

To me, it's worth the money to get a pristine archival copy of the entire series.

My old Piczo site seems to be gone, so no more Navajo Nation pics :(

In addition to Rhonda's excellent points, supporting this release provides the possibility (albeit a little remote) of future updates.

Just for the record,

I have all of the original games and I've been able to play Gettysburg and Shiloh on Vista. I think I may have set the compatibility to 98, but they run fine for me. I still plan on buying both sets from Matrix, if only to get a bug-free copy of AOS. The original crashed halfway through every campaign game I every attempted. It was a pain to work up to a decent ship and then lose everything.

We found that they would run, but would experience errors and issues during play without the fixes John made.

That's true -- I should have added that I updated them with the patches before playing them on Vista. I'd highly recommend the Matrix package to everyone. It is one of the best values ever offered and any one of the titles will provide many days of great gaming. I've been "with" Matrix for years -- from the beginning, I think -- and I am eternally grateful to them for a continuous supply of superb wargames. The support is second to none, as well, and that makes all the difference.

Hey I support Matrix plenty. I have probably 80% of all its games. I just am surprised that this project took so long with so few "improvements" I just doesn't look great at 1600/1200. Closeups look ugg! Throw us a bone why don't ya.[:)] There used to be a key that would let the computer play the computer without having to hit the next phase button all the time. That was neat!I mean Gettysburg came out for Win95.[&:] Lets have some eye candy allready. All aside I'll buy it anyway

Well I got it. Interface is smother. Those little videos sure look better. Mostly I didn't have the age of sail. Matrix should have a discount for addicted users.

You can make the computer fight itself; just set both to automatic and hit [Control] + [C] for continuous mode.

OK I remember this from the old game but it stops at the phases. Do you know away around that (I hope)
