movement issues

Post by Duck Doc »

Andrew Glenn in his review of AT at the wargamer.com says that one problem with the game is the inability of the player to cancel a move once it is made & also the inability to switch between units when deciding about moves without backing out to another screen.

Is this a problem with the game?

Well, like Chess and other mental games you cannot redo moves!
I dissagree about the ease of fiding units, when you click on the hex, ALL the units in the hex are displayed. I actually find the interface one of , if not the best, I have ever seen FOR ease of use. Remember Panzer General, it is that easy. click move, click on what hex gets attacked, click on air attack, sellect unit to attack, or sellect all and back out units etc.. all very easy and intuitive.

add on
The only thing u must remember is if you hit movement and highlight the hexes u can get to, u have to un-hit movement, several times I went to click on a different unit in a different hex only to see my troops trot off to visit there new friends while I gnashed my teath! USER error not game error!

When you move a unit you could discover an enemy unit, thus it wouldn't be fair to take back a move. I have moved a unit on accident before however though its relatively infrequent once you learn the game a little. I do not find any trouble managing multiple units in the hexes. In fact, for instance, the attack interface lets you pick all available attackers for a particular target without having to select them individually. This is often a handy shortcut.

Also, the Space or Esc keys take you out of Move Mode. No need to moue-click out of any "Action Screens" --- I believe Vic has enabled Esc on every Window, and Space except on the ones where doing that "Selects" a unit.

In many games - PG, TOAW, etc..- the game allows for undoing only if no enemy has been discovered or previously fogged hexes observed. There's no reason AT couldn't do that
(but there is an arbitration for Vic in doing this or stg else : then I'm not sure it's the best thing to improve the game, as it may be costly and won't add anything really new..).

Wow! What a treat.

This game will do nicely. Reporting for duty.

Now soon I will get to play one of my all time favorite games again, Blitzkrieg. I am a very happy old gamer.

yep, sselect attack, and then two buttons over click ALL, also nice as you can back out units by highlighting them and selecting them, effectively ordereing them to stand down.
