Getting More Voices

Post by Frozen Stiffer »

Hello!

I'm running Windows Vista and I was wondering if someone could help me find more voices to use in the text-to-speech application. There's something about a female voice announcing the players' names before the game that feels out of place (no offense intended to our female PureSim enthusiasts).

Not particularly one for technological saavy, would someone be kind enough to point me in the direction of other voices? I'm stuck with the default "Microsoft Anna".

Any help would be apprecaited.

Thanks,

-FS

Frozen, I don't know about Vista but for XP under Control Panel, text-to-speech I have the option of three different voices. I haven't dared to upgrade to Vista yet.

Microsoft Anna? In some instances, I could deal with a soothing female voice, but in my baseball games, it wouldn't seem right. XP has Microsoft Sam, but I don't employ it.

Now, I have tried other spoken-language utilities for foreign languages, and some of them are very good, but English is such a polyglot, especially in names. A realistic name-pronouncer would have to be something of a universal translator.

Let's say for example one wanted to go through the time and trouble of recording their own voice for all of the names used in Puresim Baseball. Let's say to contribute to the game :) How would one go about it?

You really want to do this? Have you ever read a telephone book (out loud)? [:D]

Honestly, though, you can add/replace custom audio to the game, but it has limitations.

dllon,

I'd suggest searching through the forums. I know (for a fact) that there's a Vista thread somewhere out there that walks you through and solves any issue you're having. PureSim runs on Vista, and there are many of us out there who can prove it, but there are just a few little things you need to do in order for it to work- it's not a lot of trouble.

Is there a way to get a different voice announcing the players instead of the one I have with Windows XP?

Wrath,

That's a change you can make at the Windows end- PureSim just uses whatever default voice you have selected for your system.

I know, but what I'm trying to figure out is if there's a way to get a replacement for Windows XP other than that Stephen Hawking's younger brother, Microsoft Sam.

Wrath,

Have you checked the Microsoft web site or done a Google search? I'm almost positive there are more XP voices out there somewhere; you just have to find them.

I'll do a search now, but I only want free ones!

It seems that there are a number of voice engines out there for text to speech, but I don't see any way to add the voices into the Windows Speech Applet so that you can use it in PureSim.

Wrath,

I'm on my work PC right now and it's running Win2000 so I can't try it myself. I'll see when I get home and try my XP desktop- I know I've done it but I honestly cannot recall it well enough to walk you through it just from memory.
