A strategy guide would be nice!

Post by MarkShot »

Just wanted to say that it would be nice if someone wrote a strategy guide. :)

I think I understand about 60% of the mechanics, but I don't really see how I should be putting it all together. Yes, I have looked at the AARs.

Then what would the fun be? [:)]

I'm learning some basic lessons (the hard way as always).

The CP needs to take out Serbia early! This opens up Turkish oil and prevents a second... ahhhhh.... third front if you are going after Russia first.

Turkey should take a swipe at Egypt just to force the Brits to commit some troops there. This will also likely force Russia to commit troops to the Caucasus. The Turks should back off if the Brits commit. They can't hang against the Tommies.

As the CP I've been jammed in Belgium twice. France first looks like a losing strategy given a conservative French deployment. I keep trying to figure it out though.

A PBEM opponant went through Holland on me. Its too early to tell if its a winning strategy, but it turned my flank nicely. I'm back peddling like a 'big dog'!

By the same token the French should expect a historical German thrust. They can defend against anything else fairly easily.

Having said all that... there is a 'rock, paper, scissors' aspect to the strategy of this game. A few misplaced deployments, based on smack talk, past games, or wrong assumptions, and things could go terribly wrong. I came up with a standard deployment to take out Serbia, figured it was pretty much bullet proof. 'Lo and Behold'! My latest PBEM opponant came up with a deployment that may unhinge my advancement to ultimate power. [:@]

Bottom line, you just have to play it out.

I will be posting my impressions as the TE soon. And Wurger I don't know if your talking about me, but my Serbian army just repulsed your austrian Offensive. I'm shelling you to oblivion in France... I'm just a bit sorry about Russia, I was sure you would go for it after last game (and the disaster in France) so my deployment was to conservative!!!! But be sure that 300 CV of Russian unit are ready to steam roll to Vienna!

Turn sent ;)

P.S. Mark, this game is all about Fog of war (truly is, you don't understand this until you start playing PBEM.)
