Load Screen/exit game issues

When I load FoF, the Matrix "load" video plays, but the screen does not appear. After it is done, I can load the game, but there are issues (i.e. screen flickers, menu screen closes and opens back up) and I have the same type of issues when shutting FoF down. That is to say, on the first attempt, it will not shut down. I am playing with the latest patch (Beta 1.10.9?). Other then these small technical issues, a very solid game that I am glad I purchased. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you in advance.

FYI, the Beta patch is up to 1.10.10 - but it sounds like you're experiencing a Flash/Shockwave issue perhaps. I would try uninstalling those and reinstalling the latest versions from Macromedia's site to see it that helps. If it doesn't help, post a DxDiag and we'll see what else might be up, this is definitely not an issue internal to the game.

I have done everything you suggested Erik to no avail. The odd thing is that I do not have this issue with any other Matrix game, newer and older. As I stated, on the menu screen when I click to load FoF, the Matrix Intro video is playing, just not visible. I have also noticed that when I do get to the FoF game menu and I load a saved game, the top of the screen flickers briefly and then it loads. I have no issues in game and this is not the biggest deal in the world, but I am curious as to what is going on. Again, any tips would be most welcome and thank you for your prompt intial response.

The top of the screen may flicker briefly during load on some computers, it's a flicker when it closes one window and opens another.  I don't experience this on our main development machine but it does happen on our Windows 2K machine.

The failure to see the loading videos may be a problem with the video drivers on your system.  If you wouldn't mind, try going into the Video/ directory and then click on matrixintro.avi.  This should cause matrixintro.avi to play in Windows Media Player or the equivalent application.  If it is not playing when you try this, then for some reason the video drivers were not properly installed when you installed FOF/subsequent patches.

The problems you describe on shut-down are consistent with a machine that has had to cache a lot into virtual memory.  How much RAM do you have on your system?  If this is a RAM problem, you can try to shut down other applications before running FOF.  You might also try running the game in low-animation mode; that makes FOF take up a much smaller amount of RAM.
