PureSim 1.70f Hot Fix Released
Another tiny hot fix that addresses some important issues:
Download 1.70f Hot Fix (~3.5 mb)
If you are on a version of PureSim prior to 1.70 please follow the install procedure here:
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1420849&mpage=1&key=?
Here are the fixes/tweaks
Fix - Random error 65535 Access Violation when human was managing game and prompted to tag up on fly ball.
Fix - Error 91 in human managed game if human manager was trying to steal 3rd and there were runners on 1st and second and runner on first had a low speed rating
Tweaks - Tweaked player fatigue modeling. It was a little too harsh on older players in some cases (especially when modeling real players in situations where PureSim was simming seasons after the player had retired in real life, but he was still around in the PureSim universe)

Oh wow, I didn't expect the see fatigue addressed for some time. Thanks so much, Shaun.

Hey Shaun,
I just wanted to say thanks. Once again, I am amazed with how you a quick to not only respond, but also address any known issues with your game. Today when some developers put out games with bugs/issues and don't feel the need to do anything about them, it is refreshing to see.

Extremely minor nit: ever since I installed 1.70f, bunt sacrifices detail their results out of order. I play an NL replay association so my pitchers sac bunt a lot.
Here's a description of what I see happening now:
If the sac bunt is (or will be?) unsuccessful, it is the first line of text. When the sac bunt is successful, the order of text is correct.
It does not stop the play or any part of the game but it does take me out of the baseball illusion.
On the plus side, I love the new fatigue model, helps me keep my aging Mets *cough* Moises Alou *cough* on the field longer.
Thanks.

Shaun,
I have players 1,2, even 3 years after they were to be retired still playing well enough to contribute in my 1903 start.!!
Example (1 of many) :
Noodles Hahn - P - Reds : supposed to be limited in 1905 1906. Here are his actual and Association stats :

LP2-
So how old is Noodles now in 1908? Why did his performance drop off in real life, and more importantly, why would you want PureSim to not have his performance drop off? I'm not sure I understand why this is a good thing for historical simmers? If player X only played until 1906, shouldn't PureSim model that?
I'm not arguing against Shaun's change, or your happiness with it, just looking for some perspective.

What I'm curious to see is a case where a player that DIDN'T retire in real life, DOES in PureSim. That would really make me wonder what real world events PureSim applied that didn't happen in... well, the real world.

FS - I would assume that a CEI would be the only reason this should happen in a PureSim Association...

My thinking was he could play till he was over 30. A good example would be how Lou Gehrig would play after he had to leave because of his illness.
I am all for players deminishing later in life but most of them heat up around 29-32 !
Do you agree ?/

Mickey Corcoran retired in 1908 after 4 years in the minors (Replay). He played only 1 year in real life, 1910.ORIGINAL: Frozen Stiffer

I like the Mickey Corcoran example, sounds like a plausible "alternate" reality. [:)]
As for Noodles, I don't necessarily agree or disagree, but I could see an argument being made for two different modes, much like Baseball Mogul allows for. You could have a "Replay" or "Simulation" mode for historical players, where the players performance year after year mirrors their real life performance within a certain allowable range. You could then have a second "anything goes" mode which would give the players intial ratings based on their career, but after that initial player creation, they may never reach their potential, or they may exceed it....

RE: PureSim 1.70f Hot Fix Released
I have a silly question regarding the new fatigue modeling: does this affect a pre-existing association, or will the re-evaluation only occur after the current season is completed?
I like the idea, though, as it means that a guy like Jackie Robinson (who was a rookie at age 28), won't wear out prematurely (hopefully).
I also wonder, then, if Robinson will have better ratings than previously (speed, eye etc) in a newly-begun 1947 season? Hmmm... perhaps I should test out a psa template created with an older game version.

Sounds good, but I wouldn,t change the game a whole lot though. Maybe Noodles and others are the exception, not the rule ?!?!? and maybe this will even out after some time !!ORIGINAL: PadresFan104

I listed some hitters and pitchers from my association in another post that I had problems with. These guys actually played into their mid 40's. PureSim stopped giving them any playing time once they hit their mid 30's. Pitchers endurance also would drop so low that even if they were starters into their 40's they were too tired or didn't have the endurence to start. I would have to go back to my post or association to find examlpes again. But Carl Hubbel could not start in PS after he was 32 years old.

This isn't limited to real associations-- it's happened to me in my fictional one. My ace pitcher's endurance has collapsed to a meager 50-something. I still start him but he doesn't rack up complete games any more- he's not all that effective over 80 or 85 pitches. I admit that I've pushed him on occasion and he's thrown 120+ pitches a few times. He's dead by the next day but he got the job done. I feel a little guilty about it though.
My #2 is in his mid-30s and his endurance is just under 50. I had no choice but to demote him to a reliever/spot-starter. He's great for about 4 or 5 innings.
I'm on v1.70f too.
