Winnepeg quarterback Ryan Dinwiddie fumbled on the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter.

Riders quarterback Kerry Joseph threw two incomplete passes, and Saskatchewan was forces to kick a field goal to go ahead. 13-7.

After the kickoff, Dinwiddie threw four straight complete passes, included a 50 yard pass to Armstrong for a touchdown.  After the conversion, the Blue Bomber reclaimed the game lead at 13-14.

So, I was stuck working and couldn't watch the game. Did Dinwiddie play well? It would be too bad if the team went down because he struggled (not blaiming him, by the way...the guy never got to play all year, then gets thrown to the wolves because Glenn gets his arm busted), ESPECIALLY with how the defense stifled Joseph.

I had the play by play up for the game.

Ryan Dinwiddie gave up three critical interceptions, and he fumbled the ball away on the first play from scrimmage in the second half.  That doomed Winnipeg to the loss.

Kerry Joseph didn't play very well either, but he didn't make as many mistakes, and in a close game, that is sometimes all it takes.

That Andy Fantuz looks like he very well could be the next great Saskatchewan receiver if he sticks around there for the long haul.

Too bad about Dinwiddie...I kinda feel bad for the kid, basically being thrown in to the fire in a game that big.

For those that don't 'get' what Canadian football means to this country and how important Grey Cup is, this link;

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/v5/content/features/audioslideshows/Gable_Cup/index.html

touches on it. It's a flash animation of sketches done by an artist working for the Globe and Mail, one of Canada's national news papers. There is a good audio description of thoughts by the artists as the movie plays out, so you might want to turn your speakers up (the audio is rather quiet).

The sketches are very rough, but then, they're not meant to be elaborate. They were likely done at the spur of the moment at the time.

Obviously, for those that were not at this years festivities/game, or have never taken in a Grey Cup (or regular CFL game for that matter), it's going to be very difficult to understand the level of passion people have for the game. And how, as the artist noted, it does a better job of bringing the country together than any politician, or even a hockey game, could ever do. Fans of the 'Rider Nation, sitting with Bomber fans at the same table having a beer. Schoonerette cheerleaders (yes they have cheerleaders, but no team yet) from Halifax dancing with Lions fans from Vancouver. The artist mentions Mardi Gras. I've been to Mardi gras and yes, it's the closest you can probably come to explain Grey Cup week.
