TCP problem

Post by Missouri_Rebel »

Posted here to follow proper channels.

I am using Hamachi with no luck. Might be FoF that is messing up because when I put in the IP addy in the login area, it recognizes my host computer, but when I try to join I get an error

Could Not Join Session Because of Error DPERR_TIMEOUT

Have you been able to ping the other machine through Hamachi?

(Here's an article on how to ping:  http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sha ... ttcpip.htm)

I have found what I think can be the problem with TCP/IP games. The programmers has not updated the version number of the game for multiplayer it says that the game is Ver: Forge of Freedom 0.8.1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fix that and I guess all TCP/IP games would work! I use the latest version of the game.

I don't think that the version number embedded in the filename is referenced by the TCP/IP code.

Using Hamachi, I've been unable to ping the other computer and my friend is getting the same timeout error message.  Do you know how to fix the issue where you can't ping the other system?

And when I try to join his Forge game, I can't even see it. :(

If you can't ping the other machine I believe it means that there's something that's preventing them from communicating on the most basic level.  You can trace the ping to see where it's getting lost -- if it's getting to your friend's service provider but not to his computer, then it's possibly a setting on the computer or something you can contact his serivce provider about (I've read that some ISPs will block certain kinds of TCP/IP traffic).  If it's lost mid-way between (this has happened to me when I tried to play with Erik Rutins one time), then I'm not sure what to do.

Same here. It hangs up on the game start. I try both Hamachi and TCP/IP... the opponent don't get the game files. The firewall is checked and looks fine. Also put away F-Secure intrusion block with no luck.

I am able to connect via TCP/IP with my wife's PC and we can send messages back and forth no problem. We end the turn each however, and we get an error message; DPERR_PENDING. Our screens go red with 2 flags but nothing happens. Any Idea's?

The pending error means that the data isn't completing its transfer properly.  Unfortunately, I'm not sure why some networks have this problem.
