WitP or WiF?

How many of you WitP enthusiasts will consider playing World in Flames when completed or how many of you play the boardgame version now? (Im a recruiter in training). [:D]

I'll take a look at MWiF when it comes out. It looks like it has potential.

I had the boardgame years ago.  I didn't really like the sea "regions".  It just didn't work for me.  Not sure about the computer game.  Need to do some research.

I'm a long time WiF fanatic, our board game group played it regularly for years and even travelled back east to play in a WiF tournament in 1997. I'll buy the game sight unseen and am sure I'll enjoy it. But it's a whole different kettle of fish than WitP. WiF could never satisfy my need for detail the way WitP does. Multi-player PBEM games will shine in WiF, that's where the real enjoyment will come from.

No, but I've been following the WiF forum, and it sounds interesting.

I've been playing the boardgame for years consistently and will probably buy it when it comes out. I'm rather a newbie at WitP though

I used to play a lot of WiF, up to the 5th edition or so. But for me it "jumped the shark" when they started adding Engineers and what-not. They don't belong in a game of this scale, in my opinion.
Information about my WitP map, and CHS, can be found on my WitP website

Never played the boardgame but the computer game looks very interesting. I'll likely get it but will probably wait a few weeks after release before I decide for sure - I think I want to check out some AARs & forum response first to get a better feel for it.

Doh! The addons are the reason that I decided to try it. [X(][:'(] Luv those fighters!

Available space can be a problem for WiFers and WitPers as well so Im trying to find the capital to start a club with a permanent pbem (Vassal or Cyberboard) system dedicated to keep a game going perpetually. Anyone with a sustainable location who can allocate a large room available can contact me here. [:D]

Played it for many years with a group of friends, it was a great game to play.  Looking forward to the computer version, they had a demo out some time ago before they handed it over to Matrix Games.[8D]

I fear for Computer WIF. I have not been following the forum but I did follow the game and have the demo from before Matrix took over. The problem is that WIF relies hugely on player interaction. At many stages you can interfere in someone elses turn. CAP, Interceptions, air missions etc. etc. So unless they change the mechanics of the game quite significantly I don't see how this will work well against a human opponent(s). And lets face it the AI would be mindboggling difficult to make even tolerably decent.

And if they change the mechanics significantly then why make computer WIF at all? Why not just a global turn based WW2 game and not be tied to its design decisions and constraints? Computers can handle odds, supplies and individual unit data on a scale far beyond the most complex boardgame. So why restrict these aspects to merely how WIF does? What really made WIF was the playing against human opponents not its CRT and pieces. The Computer version can only reproduce the latter. Any half way decent game needs to play to the computers strengths.

Sadly the quest for a decent global WW2 game will continue, a sort of Heart of Iron but turn based/good, will go on after this one is released....
