Terrain map?

Post by Warhorse »

Hey all, it's been a verrrrrryyyy long time since I visited here, and I'm truly sorry, but I can't get the old girl to work anymore, it usually crashes out within a few minutes of gameplay, so I've been playing/modding the campaign series for the last 3-4, 5? years!! I have a question though, does anyone have, or know of a map of all the terrain shp files, so that one can find trees, or the walls, etc.? I have the Bible, but that is only the custom terrain, I need something that tells what each of the terrain shp files contain. Is there such a beast? Thanks in advance!

Damn good to see you, Mike!!

Tracer may have something made up (I am assuming the Bible you have was the one he worked up awhile back). He was doing alot of work awhile back on them, so he may be the guy.

Very good to hear from you. Don't be a stranger!

Hey Goblin!!! Thanks very much for the link, still not exactly what I'm after, but is an update to what I had! I wish I could get this game to co-operate, maybe I'll try it again soon, see if my machine will behave, I've gone through some changes with it, who knows!?

I remember years ago when for awhile, your posts always had-"A Goblin..(followed by various phrases)", used to crack me the hell up, real good to hear from one of the old-timers, I'll try not to be so distant!

Best regards all,

Mike

Excellent Flashfyre!!! Thank you very much, I had known all this back when I was helping to develope SPWAW, but that was many hard-drives ago, I fear most of that info is gone, although I think somewhere there is one of the very first renditions of WAW, right after we converted it from Steel Lightning!!!

Goblin, no problem, thank you very much for the help none-the-less!![&o]

Thanks Korpraali V! Last night I tried SPWAW again, this time turning off ZoneAlarm firewall, and it worked!! Don't know if it's just a fluke or what, but would be nice to be able to play it again, I really miss it.

Good to hear that it worked. The latest version in use is 8.403 with Enhanced DV or DVRN Mod. More here: http://spwaw.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15892

And if you need a target to practice... [;)]

Korpraali, yes, I think maybe some practice will be good, something small perhaps? If you know of a Finn vs Soviet smaller scenario, I will play Soviet, be nice, it's been a loooooong time![:D] My addy is chevyss65@dejazzd.com.

Alby, good to hear from you also!! I'm downloading the latest enhanced now, hopefully my machine will co-operate and continue to let me play! I'm doing well, helping now to develope some Campaign Series stuff, and continueing work on my Korean War Mod for that Series.

Mike and I have been working on some things with the Campaign Series and it is a fun game at that level.

Steel Panthers is still the game that I compare all the others to though.

I just wish there was an isometric view in a Steel Panthers type game. I'm not sure if Squad Battles is it (some of that series has 3D isometric view).
Conflict of Heroes "Most games are like checkers or chess and some have dice and cards involved too. This game plays like checkers but you think like chess and the dice and cards can change everything in real time."

Are there other possibilities to compare games? [&:]

Mike!! Long time, no see!

You prolly don't remember, but you're the guy that explained the basics of working with icons to me (circa '01)!

That list that Flash posted (and in-depth info about SHPs, and working with Fred Chandla's SP tools) can be found in RockinHarry's SP-Design Guide: download it here.

That sounds like Combat Mission ...Wild Bill worked on that game (he's listed in the credits as 'Lead Tester/Scenario Author'), as well as a few others from the original SPWAW-crew.

Mike
Mike , ther are 2 mods for Lost Victories and Desert Fox, which use the updated Icons and Terrain files at the enhanced site.
also almost all but maybe one or two of the original campaigns have been updated for Enhanced, you can find them at the Enhanced site, also look for the "Enh scen and campaign pack" that nox created. it has 99 scenarios and 19 camapaigns I think
