RHS Levels 5, 6 & 7 sans AIO Level 7 (notice at end)

Post by el cid again »

All RHS scenarios - including for the first time RHSEEO - of all levels are packaging to upload to the primary distibution list - a process that will take a few hours so we don't overfill some web services. Mifune will post them to the RHS site the next time he checks his email.

RE: RHS comprehensive updates in packaging for upload

I will create rapidly a new set of pwhex files for all three levels. These should be the last ever done for WITP I RHS.
They will add a function so interior river naval vessels may go to sea - if a player wishes - in most cases. They will also fix two technical issues. These files will backfit to existing games without any chance of "trapping" ships etc.

I will review Mifune's revised RHS manual for eratta. Since almost all of the items in it were written by me (and posted in the Forum) the eratta are almost always my fault.

We will begin human testing - probably issuing the first Japanese turn to Mifune on Tuesday (who will do certain things to certain command areas prior to issuing to players). We will then send this turn to the head of the Allied Tag Team - and to ANYONE ELSE who wants to play in parallel - alone or in a team. I will also issue solitare tests of other scenarios during the week to anyone who has a particular scenario interest.

I will beging a quick and dirty RHSCAIO this week. It is just RHSCVO files mixed with RHSAIO location and air group files - which then need tweeking. This means you get CVO devices, aircraft, and ships - and I will convert those land and air units which need it to CVO standards. It is RHSAIO writ lite, mainly a practice game for CVO - as it won't be a powerful opponent - and it won't have a surprise opening. [Meaning it won't have the invasion of the Central Pacific opening - players may set surprise on or off as usual]

You sure have my thanks for the AIO and the upcoming CAIO. I may be playing these games a lot longer than I first anticapated after the news of the new AE.

RE: RHS Level 7 comprehensive Uploading

RHS Level 7 scenarios are now in the upload process to the primary distribution list.

There is no plan to update these scenarios unless a serious problem is detected. Eratta will be collected awaiting the next update.

RE: RHS Levels 6 & 7 comprehensive Uploaded

Level 6 scenarios have all been uploaded to the primary distribution list. This is almost certainly the last significant update for Level 6. It is significant only insofar as it reforms the IJA OB - and adds devices (like the 105mm howitzer).
IJA infantry guns now are range restricted - just as Allied ones always have been. And the new division name scheme - which tells players a lot more than the division number - is implemented. Even so - this is not a major update - and this remains a minor if comprehensive update. It includes all identified eratta.

RE: RHS Levels 5, 6 & 7 comprehensive "Final" Uploaded

Post by el cid again »

Level 5 file sets uploaded to the primary distribution list. Once again, it is not likely this set will be updated again.

The original plan - to redo all levels after the Matrix "update" is out the window - unless there really IS a Matrix update to WITP I that changes fundamentals enough to require this. AE is not an "update" - it is a different product.

An old RHS concept - Level 8 - which was to use a different map scheme (all RHS levels relate to different map schemes) - was resurrected last night by Mifune and I: we will call RHS AE variations Level 8 - and these will emulate either Level 5 or 7 - depending on which you think is closer to the new map ideas. It will be RHS implemented in the stock map system. We might add a Madagascar option later - if we gain the ability to do the pwhexL files - which I expect in due course - but that will take time - and likely be called Level 9. This means that Levels 5 and 6 will more or less die in terms of development - or be frozen in their final form - particularly if WITP I does not update in a significant way. My first thought was to do the same with Level 7 - but it may be we will need to keep it alive - as the shipping tracks and Madagascar mini - map - and apparently even the ability to attack Panama - may all be missing from AE/Level 8. Another thing is this: if we do not gain the ability to edit pwhex for AE - we may implement seasonal maps for Level 7.

Meanwhile back at the ranch I will do a pwhex set - today - for every level - again likely the final product of this sort.
I am considering some supplimental pwhex files - to permit some infrastructure damage - or construction. To use these - just rename the special case as "pwhex.dat" and put it in the top level WITP folder.

RE: RHS Levels 5, 6 & 7 sans AIO Level 7 (notice at end)

Post by el cid again »

While RHSAIO exists in Levels 5 and 6, it no longer exists in Level 7.

Instead we have RHSEEO pretending to be AIO - and having just done a universal backup on completion of work without detecting this -
I managed to destroy the former AIO files in many locations - being fooled by the lables. Except for the cam file, this set no longer exists.

So don't use RHSAIO Level 7.

I will create a version of it while doing RHSCAIO for level 7 - side by side. But it won't be exactly the same as it was before. I must start with RHSEOS and modify it - just as CAIO is RHSCVO modified.
