PLAYING PBEM? PLEASE READ!

Post by Murat »

I think only 1 game has actually progressed forward without some sort of restart. We are all new to this so not knowing how to do something is normal. Trying to wing it though can stop the game you are playing and undo everything that everyone else has done so:

[1] Do NOT do your turn unless you are absolutely positive you are doing it correctly. [:-]
[2] READ THE MANUAL.
[3] Ask questions. If you are even remotely unsure ASK and then wait for an answer from the host, that way the host gets blamed for the mix up not you. [:D]
[4] If you think you made a mistake, do NOT keep trying to reload things, this is a GUARANTEED way to cause a rollback of the game, or worse a restart.
[5] It is better to spend a few minutes or even hours doing it right than to undo a week's worth of turns.
[6] The Dave Matthews band does not rock.

HAVE FUN!

pity the game dont just link all together like battlefield or other shooters, so you can see the playing board, someone do turn, then you get a your are next, then you do yours, then next, would make it faster and not require alot of emailing :)

but can hope the game will become more like that eventually

I wouldn't call them problems, just kinks...and not really kinks, just people not yet sure how to do specific things.

It seems pretty easy to me but I've still had questions about certain things.

Concur with all, especially #6. I’m hosting Corsican Usurper and we’ve had 2 setbacks. You have to be very sure to follow the steps in the manual.

IMPORTANT FOR HOSTS: the note on page 20 about not starting the game from the gamestart.pbm file is very important because you won’t have admin rights if you do.

Also as Murat notes, any irregularity with any one of the 7 players with the way they save and transfer files will result in a hung game that you will either have to resynch or restart.

I think once we all get the hang of the file structure it will become second nature, but until then break out the manual and follow it step by step.

The good news is that the forum moderators are very responsive if you have questions. And I have alot. [:D]

Ya. TCP/IP would be nice, except with so many people, if you don't specifically know everyone, it wouldn't be easy getting so many together at the same time...from so many different time zones.

That is because you have an awesome host who seamlessly solved the problem before you were even aware there was 1 [:D]
