9-player Diplomacy - British AAR

Post by Ande »

Diplomacy:
I have made much contact with other players. First I convinced france to be my ally, or rather, he happily recieved any help he could get. Then I threatened spain with invasion if he attacked france suggested that he attacks Italy instead. Germany has aproached me with a suggestion to attack france and scandinavia. I sent this suggestion to scandinavia and I'm hoping that I gained another ally there. I have yet to see if spain attacks france or aims for Italy.

I created a Expedition force this turn which will be used against spain if he brakes our agreement. If he doesn't the target is kiel.

in the mediteranian, tweber(balkans) suggested a war against Vic(turkey). I will try to be as passive as possible at this front as this is only a secondary front

I will make a large airforce because my geografical situation allows a limited army, a airforce is more versalite than a navy since it could be used against both sea and land

you´ll build a offensive or a defensive air force ?
Lol, make England a fortress :)

I hope for you that Germany and France doesn´t play together to kick you from your island.

tactical bombers and fighters can be used as both, I might build som levelbombers too, forcing my enemeies to put AA in their cities. But as the sittuation is now, I will probably need my airforce for offencive means

Turn3:
not much has happened yet, but I have been heavily engaged in diplomacy. I think spain has desided not to attack france, If he does france is lost and I have to look around for new allies. Scandinavia has made peace with both russia and germany which is very bad indeed I can only hope for that he intends to attack germany. Mabe has he made some deal with germany and is planning to attack me, not good. This means that I do not have sea supremacy anymore, tying my hands. I do not even know if I can proceed with my plans to attack kiel. Another possibilit is that scandinavia wants to build his forces and max them out before taking on some oponent.

Good news is that russia is going to attack Germany by the looks of it

Italy has attacked egypt with one unit, they gained a lot of ground but it is probably an unsupported armored unit. I have a somewhat large airforce in egypt and certanly more airplanes than italy and some infantry. Meaning this is just a skrimish which I probably could use to my advantage later on. I made peace with turkey, he occupied some land of mine and keeping a rather strong force at the front

I have come up with an emergency plan called Fortress Britanica. I is contrary to my current doctrine to use a mobile strike force to apply diplomatic pressure on various players to get my will through. Fortress Britanica is based on a small coastalunits(10 infantry) guarding all my coast, much flak and fighters and and a armored reserve to repel any invasion before they can establish a strong beachhead. This is a higly isolationistic aporach hoping that my enemies someday will be fighting at equal terms with other players and where I am sufficient to tip the scale.

I will post screenshots when my troops sees some action

Turn4:
I am preparing an invasion of germany and I will be able to conduct it next turn but then I will not be able to land engineers and that is not good. I also encountered a german navy, it sustained some hardreplaced ships. 3 destroyers 3 cruisers, a battleship and some cargoships. I think it was about 2/3 of the enemy force. I lost some ships myself but the hardest losses where taken in aircraft, nothing to worry about. I am a bit uncomfortable with having enemy cargoships outside my coast so I issued step one in plan "Fortress Britanica" meaning I created additional units around my ports, making a speedy capture harder.
I think the germans was only trying to screen his own coastline, I guess he never heard of the term "fleet in being" and that's all right with me.

T-turn is approaching

turn 6
I did do my invasion of germany. It was, however, a operational disaster.
biggest mistake was that I had terrible supply management, I was in a hurry and my engineer wasn't ready.
I didn't destroy the german navy prior to the landing and the landingforce was much to small to fight german reserves. Also, the landing area was slightly out of range of my airplanes

Considering this, at the startegical level, things are not too mad. Yes, I made some losses but only infantry which are easily replaced. What amazed me the most was that my navy was still intact. It was left next to a german fleet of equal size but with very little rdn. I thought for sure he would attack it leave an evacuation out of the picture. Luckily he didn't and the result of the endavor is:
I losing 60 infantry
germany engaging quite large force, supposely not reserve but frontline troops
I still have the ability to strike at anywhere  on the atlantic coast meaning germany must leave forces to guard it

my fortress plan has been initiated but I build a lot of levelbombers, hoping to draw german rescources with a major bombing campaign
