RHSCVO questions
About to start an RHSCVO PBEM as allies soon and having some questions where I'd like to ask for a brief reply. Thx in advance.
a) Aircraft Reinforcement Schedule on Dec/07 shows two squads 'organizing', never seen this before what exactely does that mean?
a1) One of said squads (USN VCT17) arrives at Tokyo. Is this an oversight or intentionally?
b) According to witpload analysis an allied plane called "RTAF B10" upgrades to "Ki-21-II Sally". Seems weird to me, but maybe some data got corrupted while extracting?
c) Upgrade of allied factories and pools. Salt Lake City manufactures 9 C32 in the beginning. Does this factory upgrade to the C-87 in 09/42? My understanding is that factories upgrade according to the upgrade path extracted by witpload but I'd like to doublecheck.
c1) There are sometimes planes in the pool that are not yet available like the above mentioned C-87. Should this considered a buffer to be used when the plane becomes available or are these planes for use _before_ general availibility? Dont want to be gamey here...
d) Having big pools of scrap aircraft (eg P26-A) allows to use those for training squads and frees up some first line aircraft, is this intentional? I'd assume yes, but again I'd like to make sure.
More to folloew soon... [;)]

RE: RHSCVO questions
RTAF did operate B-10s. Got extra replacements from NEI during the war - but I cannot do that for technical reasons. They should upgrade to Ki-21. RTAF also operates Ki-43s and other Japanese planes as time passes.

RE: RHSCVO questions
C-87 is wierd - you HAVE some in a pool to start with - but there is NO production! The production waits for the regular line to open. The ones you have are ad hoc converted - LB-30s in fact mostly - and some B-24s.
RE: RHSCVO questions
I thought Thailand was an ally of Japan during the war so I was wondering why the RTAF squad appears in the allied reinforcements. Or are you somehow simulating a switch of sides here?
Regarding C-87 you're right, there is no production in the beginning, just wanted to understand which factory upgrades to what. My guess would be the C-32 upgrades to the C-87.
Btw. is there a possibility to get info on factory upgrades (when they upgrade and to which plane)?

RE: RHSCVO questions
If you look at the aircraft database, the upgrade type is listed. So is the date each type starts production.
C-87 enters production 9/42. You also start with 68 machines in the pool.
C-87 also represents the LB-30 in transport form - which all in US service either started as or were converted to.
C-32 is in production when the game begins and upgrades to C-87 in 9/42. You start with 300 C-32s.
These represent C-32, C-36, C-39, C-40, BT-2 and other small twin engine transport aircraft.
Unlike most aircraft, the production rate of C-32s - and therefore also of C-87s - is fixed - at 9 per month. C-87 was not a particularly happy or successful aircraft - and every one made costs you a B-24. You get 17 C-54s in CVO and BBO families, 26 in EOS family except 34 in EEO - per month - once ramped up - which takes 1 day per machine. But C-87 is different - it starts at 9 - no ramp up - there is already a bunch in service - and it never changes - ever. Very unusual for RHS.
It looks like your understanding of how aircraft production upgrades was dead on correct.

This is always a problem - you will never get these units - and you should not.
They are EOS family air group units for USS Reprisal - CVL-58 - which does not exist in CVO. They should be 9999ed out - and will be.

No. The plane is not in production. So you get all the replacements you will ever get - up front.
So far as I know - the Allies have no "training squadrons" - so you can hardly use them for that. But if you want to create a sort of "pilot teaching squadron" - you can.

I don't see an RTAF squadron listed under Allied reinforcements. What is it called?
What I DO see is "RTAF B-10B" listed under aircraft pools. This is because it is using an Allied plane slot. It does not work - the Thai don't draw the replacements - so I should probably edit it out. But the aircraft works fine - and even if I take out the 9 - it will still list as an Allied plane type. Since it IS an Allied plane type - that isn't too wrong.

I meant the plane but wrote squad, sorry that wasn't a clear statement from my side.
For the moment I believe all my questions are answered but I'm sure I'll stumble upon new ones... [;)]
Thank you for taking the time and thanks for all the work you and the team put into RHS!

RE: RHSCVO questions
I have a few question of my own for our game. Thailand is a Japanese ally? If so why are all Thai land areas marked as Chinese? Do I have to conquer all these areas? How would that effect Thai reinforcements? Does Thailand have its own pilot pool?
The CV Junyo has A6M3 as its fighter what happens if it shows up before any of these are produced?

RE: RHSCVO questions
Thailand is a wierd case. The armed forces generally oppose joining the war on the Axis side, but the head of state - the most successful of all Axis leaders actually to fight IMHO - forced them to do so anyway. [He was removed from power by a technicality when it became clear the Allies would win; Thailand was allowed to switch sides; He was charged and convicted of war crimes by a THAI tribunal; he appealed to the THAI Supreme Court which held because of the UNITED STATES Constitution his conviction must be reversed (the ex post facto clause)!; he then returned to power as Prime Minister again!] He renamed the country - it had been Siam - Thailand means "free" in Thai and "land" in English! His regime was as anti-Chinese as the Germans were anti-Jewish. He conquered parts of Burma to which Thailand had no historical claim - as well as Cambodia and Malaya which it has legitimate claim to IMHO and probably in law (all were given back in 1946).
You must conquer the place because it isn't united - yet. UNTIL you do the LOC and supply don't flow right.
No - the blank Axis "nation" does not work - so RTAF pilots are IJA pilots.
Junyo gets A6M3 because it is late enough to get it - in some scenarios anyway. CVO and BBO families. There is no A6M3 in EOS family.

RE: RHSCVO questions
But will the Junyo have A6M3 when I accelerate the build and it shows up in 71 days? Even at its posted normal arrival of 141 days the A6M3 is still not available, will the carrier show up with them anyways.

RE: RHSCVO questions
No.
The A6M3 should start production in 8/41 (1/8/42).
But any time an air unit cannot appear with the right plane, it appears with the wrong one. Often just a single plane.
Then you (player) pick what to outfit it with - from the available planes.

RE: RHSCVO questions
So the Japanese take a hit by losing 16 fighters and pilots because you decided to have an CV show up with AC it can't possibly have even if it is not accelerated? Good move. Think you should change this to A6M2. Or even A5M4 would be better from a production stand point.

RE: RHSCVO questions
There are NO free aircraft. You always lose them from some pool or other. Or must wait for them to produce. The idea you "take a hit" is a misunderstanding of the mechanics: you would lost the 16 planes in any case from some pool or other. Doing so manually is not different than if they start out that way. But I have not had to do this in test games. Guess I better take a look.
I am not aware that there is a problem with this unit initial equipment - and there isn't in EOS family - but IF there is a problem it is probably that I changed the date of the aircraft. Many - perhaps most - aircraft arrive later in RHS than they did in CHS - which is where we began.

RE: RHSCVO questions
Yep. Nail on the head time. In CHS, A6M3 arrives in 4/42. In RHS that changed to 8/42. But Junyo arrives in 5/42 - so the unit is assigned the wrong aircraft for that time frame.
This can easily be fixed.
Hiyo has the same problem - arriving in July - 1 month before the A6M3.

RE: RHSCVO questions
Fixed. If you are on primary distribution, get micropudate 7.7881 now. If not - wait for the posting or send an address.
Level 5 - not yet uploaded - will be at 5.7881 level. Level 6 and 7 need the microupdate.
