Lawsuits in the making?

Post by pvicente »

Hello, I don't know if you've read the latest entry in Don Gilman's blog, I have, and here's a part that made me pause:
It still amazes me that some members of the H3 community think that the H3 game is theirs, as in THEY are the final authority, that THEY decide who can particpate, what the models should be, and how to contribute. There is a fascinating lesson in Internet communities to be learned from all of that. One day I hope to either publish a book (and I'll name names then) and/or have the Sociology Department here at Texas A&M study the matter.

One of the things that is puzzling is the religious fanatisicm expressed by those folks. There is one fellow who is attacking our integrity. The very same person who took our IP and posted it on their website w/o my permission. When confronted with the matter they claimed morale authority in doing so.

There is another player who is frequently accused of stealing much of the works published by others, hacking it, and then presenting it as his own. Everyone I've asked to examine the evidence agrees that it appears to be plagerized. The problem is that my IP isn't ripped off. So where is the best place to apply pressure?

Now that USNI and HCE are out - I have time to sit down with an attorney and review some of these damaging antics. Especially since I have documented financial harm to AGSI.
I've seen some pretty heated exchanges between industry members and gamers in the web, but I've never seen things go so far!
So, do you think that Harpoon 3 might actually spark a court battle between Don and his unnamed detractors?

I can't say I blame Don, there's a lot of detractors that remain members of the community which is surprising to say the least. I'm more concerned that there are so few people actively involved at this point in development. With so many "old hands" standing aside, there's a open opportunity for newcomers or even those that haven't had the "courage" to join up to at least give it a try and help Harpoon move forward.

I think I can speak for almost everyone not closely associated with one of the many Harpoon factions, when I say that the infighting and constant warring between the clans is killing the game.

Cheers

If you pay an extra $20, you get both HCCE and ANW.

If you pay an extra $100, you get both digital download, boxed versions, and kevlar body army. It's the best deal Matrix has offered yet for Harpoon! :)

With a $900 saving on Kevlar and a Helmet in a well known FPS game, this has to be the bargain of the year. [;)] Not only that you get a heap more firepower...

Cheers

I'll keep it short then. It sounds ridiculous. And like D says most have the smarts not to get involved then most gamecompanies and developers have the smarts not to sue the players. It would be THE worst kind of publicity.

I'd take the  Barrett M82 any day...

And $900 is just enough to get me an FN P90. Man I love that gun.

Dale, if I could get a P90 for $900, I'd have one yesterday, probably a couple. Truth is, they're not being exported here from the US or Belgium. Even if you could find one, you can expect to pay over $4,000. Heck, a G36 is over $6,000, and the P90 is nicer. Anyhoo, its a lot more fun to talk about than litigation. [;)]

While we're talking about guns from Counter-Strike IRL, I had a chance to fire a UMP45 a few years back at a range.  Was rather suprised by the recoil although I think it was just the funky ROF.  Tried the desert eagle (.44 not the .50) and found it impossible to control.

Dale, the RNC has the UMP in .40S&W. Handles like a toy gun, and although I didn't get an opportunity to shoot it, I'm familiar with the .40. Its got a bit of snap in a handgun, so should be fun in an SMG. As for .44, I like it in a Ruger Redhawk. Hmm, we're getting way off topic here, aren't we ? [:D]

Some of us just play the game and don't understand what all this is about. I think we all know that Legal matters are a serious business. I spend most of my time in the witp forum and noticed two things. There seems to be alot of negativity in this forum (Harpoon) and the steel panthers forum. THis is the second post were ive seen moderators in Harpoon threating some one or something. So whats all this about. Can someone bring me up to speed.[&:]

Speaking officially for AGSI, we are not undertaking legal action of any kind.  And I'd know

Legal matters are a serious business I would suggest to anyone reading this that they consider carefully what they say because most people a) don't know what they are talking about and b) most have the smarts not to get involved.

And $900 is just enough to get me an FN P90.  Man I love that gun.

I don't think the talk of guns was a threat.

Anyhow, take my advice, stay clear of the "issues with parties" and you will be fine.

Neutrality is the best course at this time.
