CHS game glitch

Post by Speedysteve »

Hi all,

All of a sudden my 3 x 3 CHS game has this glitch during my orders phase. All of the buttons along the bottom of the screen have 'gone weird'/disappeared. Also the plane and LCU picture art has disappeared. Any thoughts here?

Happens frequently with me after playing out numerous turns (perhaps 10-15) at one setting. The display graphics just quit working as you have posted. I have to quit the game and then bring it back up again.

Speedy,

I agree with DD696. After playing multiple turns or switching from stock to CHS (I have 2 seperate installs) I get some graphic abnormalacies like you are seeing (or not seeing). I usually have to reboot my computer in order to get things cleared up. Of course, this is assuming that you haven't deleted or overwritten any Art files.

Yeah, Ken. It was on my old PC I left at my folks and now that I'm here on a visit I fixed it. Back in all it's glorious coolness.[:D]

Some stuff mentioned on the BOB thread... as mentioned, try killing off the background programs that might be running (do this immediately after rebooting).

You might have to reinstall ART files if they have somehow become corrupted. [:(]

BTW - as mentioned elsewhere - if you can start CHS with a fresh game (AI or head to head) and just see if you have the icons. etc. present (i.e. - without loading the saved game), this could (almost) rule out corruption of the art files.

Well still no joy. I have turned what I can/know off. Only had e-mail/Web Browser up (have to since at work). Turned Virus checker off (temporarily). Loaded up CHS. Tried new gane and save game but neither worked. Both still had missing buttons/icons.

I've attached the processed I have on on my machine. A lot I know but not sure which of theeI can turn off.

On the flip side. Nothing has changed/been added on my laptop from when this first occured so not sure why this is happening other than potential corrupt art.

OK - i've been doing a bit of research and have learned a few things... [8D]

Apparently, from the Task Manager, you can set the priority of certain processes... if you right click on the process, it will give you priorities of the process, and you can reset it.

If you are not connected to a network (i.e. the internet), you can kill off any processes related to it, such as YahooMessenger, ieexplorer, email programs, and your antivirus.

Then, if you start WITP, you can alt-tab to the Task Manager, right click on the WITP program and set the priority to high... this will hopefully allocate more resources to the game and if it is a RAM memory shortage it might solve the problem. Of course, if it is file corruption it won't solve it.

Let us know the outcome!!

Thanks Bob.

Well tried all of this and no joy. Still lack of art. I turned off most of the processes and prioritised WITP but still no joy. I guess I will have to try a re-install but that won't happen for a few days.

One last thought - have you run antivirus/antispyware to make sure nothing bad got installed without your knowledge?

Other than that, i guess try reinstalling the ART first.

Also Speedy, I didn't see if you had tried to start a new CHS game to see if that works.
