Upgrading Aircraft and Ship Building options

Post by skrewball »

Forgive me if this was covered in another thread, they are just too long to sort through but I had an idea and wanted to know if it was possible.

1. Upgrading current designs

Would it be possible to spend an amount of resources/supply to "upgrade" a current design? Say, for 100,000 resources and two months time you can increase the durability of the A6M2 by a point or two. I am not sure how the database interacts with the program but I couldn't imagine it being that hard to add in or code. It is historically accurate because all governments spend alot of time and money trying to improve their current designs.

2. More shipbuilding options

With the Japanese shipbuilding, could you cancel one ship in favor of others? Say you lost a BB early on, could you cancel the production of 10 DDs and 'use' those resources to create a new BB? That is what the Japanese did historically. After Midway they stopped the production of the Shinano as a BB and made it a CV. Well in the game it comes out as a CV, but what if you have no need of CVs because you haven't lost the KB? I would rather have 10 DDs or some CAs if the situation warrants it. And it allows the player some more input to the shipbuilding program.

Just some ideas. I wanted to know if the game would allow this or not.

If you really want to "upgrade" your planes you can do it prior to starting your game in the editor. As for it being an in-game option, I think you are underestimating the difficulty and cost (time and resources) of adding such a feature.

I'd be happy if in AE they put the player in charge of production, I hate it when the AI changes my factories to build what it wants, whos in control the player or AI? A lot of the old Japanese planes are better than the new ones! Add a dam switch in the options to give the player control!!!

In WITP you control evey sub in the fleet, yet you don't control aircraft production?

Giving the player half-control is just half-ass [8|]
