Axis And Allies PBEM

Post by jjdenver »

[TURN 1]

Hey, there have been some requests for an AAR of our ongoing A&A multiplayer game. Here are sides (randomly determined):
JAPAN: Delyrin locksmith
U.S.: Tweber
GERMANY: Lomyrin
USSR: IRONCROM
UK: jjdenver

I don't have any pics from the UK's first turn but I'll try to start posting some next turn.

On Germany turn 1 the Germans attacked the RN fleet at Gib from the med side w/ the Italian Navy and from the Atlantic side w/ a German sub fleet. The RN fleet was battered but survived, then in my turn counterattacked and destroyed the sub fleet then escaped into the Atlantic.

The RN sub force stationed in the Med located and attacked a convoy of Italian transports (loaded) off the coast of Libya but all 4 RN subs were lost while no Italian ships were sunk. :(

In Afrika the Germans and Italians expanded both west and east, approaching the Suez as well as taking Morocco/Algeria/Tunisia.

No other action to report for turn 1. I am not ready to report on research and production at this point as that's all top secret since UK starts very spread out and vulnerable.

P.S. Any other players can feel free to add posts about what's happening on their turns.

Hey Iron - I don't know whether you saw it in scenario notes but apparently terrain plays no role in combat in this scenario so river line is completely useless - consider all terrain as clear terrain so straight lines are probably better.

[TURN 2]
The Royal Navy sails back into the Med, locates the Italian Fleet east of Gibraltar and engages, winning a victory. After a couple of engagements the Italian Navy is sent to the bottom.

[TURN 2]
The Wermacht has launched an unsuccessful assault on the Suez Canal. Brits strike back with air and ground assaults, wiping out the forward German units. However the units that my subs were unable to sink last turn are still in Libya I'm sure. There is also a German unit(s) moving into western Africa.

Everything else is top secret for now since the Commonwealth is quite spread out and vulnerable. I will say that I built a factory then when I tried to build units there I forgot to play the card to send units there so instead the units showed up at London. I didn't really need transports in London right now. :(

US turn 2 -

I played the occupied Spain card and declared a 'War of Convenience' against the UK in order to occupy Eastern Canada (less the production site).  The purpose of both these moves is to minimize the trans-Atlantic distance.  I also dropped 6 units onto Spain and Western France this turn to take pressure off of the Soviets. Note that the 'War of Convenience' is a mechanism to prevent Allies from blocking eachother. It automatically expires at the end of each turn.

As a design note, I made all terrain equivalent to be in line with the board game.  If someone would like to make a version with terrain values, feel free to make the modification.

USSR turn 3
The Soviets hold Leningrad...
German forces launch a massive assault on the city. Soviet regulars fight to the last man, with only a few subformations left.
Local militia's in Leningrad rally to prepare for another assault...Soviet reinforcments are sent to relieve city, but high command fears it may be to late.

[TURN 3]

A Japanese naval force steams around Australia but no attacks are made.

The Germans try an assault on Alexandria but are repulsed.

The RN has free reign in the Med. The RAF bombs the German offensive aimed at West Africa and around Suez air and land attacks are made on the DAK.

The Yanks are ashore in Spain as Tom mentioned in his post. It's nice to see the green units charging past my limeys. :)

Here's a picture of the Med w/ lots of stuff covered up so that no secrets are revealed!

US Turn 3

In the Pacific, looks like China will fall in the next 2 turns. I made amphibious landings on the Phillipines and the Japanese mainland.

In Europe, wipe out 2 German tank corps in France. Reinforcements continue to pour into France and Spain.

USSR Turn 4
Leningrad has fallen into German hands!
The fall of Leningrad sent Stalin into mad rage...He ordered General Zukov to commence an immediate offensive into South Eastern Europe. Soviet forces are on the move.

[UK TURN 4]
The Japanese did indeed invade New Zealand. I built a factory on turn 1 in Australia. On turn 2 I tried to build a transport fleet in Australia but as I mentioned previously I forgot to click on the card that sends units to Australia before I built it. So the transport showed up in London. :( This left me unable to reinforce New Zealand in time.

India is quiet for now.

In Africa the German column advancing on West Africa is wiped out by air and ground attacks.

In southern France a German unit is bombed.

In Egypt heavy airstrikes pound the DAK. The DAK is really battered at this point and I don't see any way that the Germans can stop me from taking all of Africa without immediate reinforcements - which I doubt they can muster since the RN is patrolling the Med unopposed.

Are you sure? [;)]

Looks like India could be Japans first defeat of the war. Scouting missions showed it undefended. But when I landed a small underequipped force there - they face 3 British Corps. Can't see how they can possibly liberate India, and without a port we cannot extract them either!

USSR Turn 5

The German army strikes hard in the North and pushes back Soviet troops as well as elimnates some full strength units.

Using reserves from behind the lines Zukov counters in the North and pushes the Germans right back. In the south Soviet troops continue to drive back the Germans...

In the East Soviet Forces are moving toward Sikang in force to meet the advancing Japanies forces. Soon I will be able to send many more as the German lines will begin to falter soon.

With the americans firmly planted in western Europe, things are looking bad for the Germans. There line against my forces in the East is about to completely shatter, and they can't afford to build it back up with American forces charging into France.

[UK TURN 5]
I forgot to take screen shots b4 I ended the turn.

I bombed and bombarded New Zealand, wiped out the Japanese Bridgehead in India and sunk their transport fleet.

In the Atlantic some of my fighters based out of London flew CAP over a yank transport fleet entering the Channel but unfortunately the transports were sunk :( I retaliated by bombing a German sub fleet that I found out in the mid-Atlantic.

In Africa there was heavy combat in Libya w/ the Germans on the losing end of it.

It looks like Japan is still trying to expand but Germany seems to be fighting a losing defensive war in western Europe and at sea.

USSR TURN 6

German forces hit hard in the North again, pushing back Soviet forces.
Soviet reserves come right back to the line...

In the South Soviet Forces are able to take the Ukraine away from the Germans...They can't hold it but it will be disruptive for the Germans.

German Lufftwaffe suffers heavy casualties this turn as Soviet fighters intercept some German air strikes on Soviet ground forces... There doesn't seem to be much left in the German Air force.

US forces continue to preasure Germans in the West... This has Givin Soviet forces a lot of relief and the ability to send significant forces toward China.

[UK TURN 6]
I forgot again to take good screenshots of the situation but I did take screenshots of a couple air battles that I found interesting. First the turn events.

ANZAC forces launched an attack to retake New Zealand. Shore bombardment and air strikes were followed by a successful invasion.

DAK was finally wiped out and now all of Africa belongs to the Commonwealth.

Now to the air battles. First the RAF located a German panzer unit in southern France that seemed a likely target for bombardment. The result was awful. A few German fighters just ripped up my RAF attacking force as shown here. Obviously the Luftwaffe is stronger than I expected!!

[UK TURN 6]
But then RAF forces in India launched an airstrike against Burma with MUCH better results - the Japanese air force obviously needs some training!
