I wonder why some players like to have "show rough regions" on? It makes the map look so ugly. It's also not even necessary because region popup info tells you whether a region is rough or not, plus after a short time playing your going to remember where the rough is anyway.

On the same topic why have "show cold regions" on? I find the white border highlighting obnoxious.

For me, I like to have them on because it gives the "feel" of the real terrain. I have a tendency not to look at the text boxes unless I can't find the info I need displayed some other way. Perhaps as a Yupper you have a subliminal problem with the winter regions.[:D] I grew up on the LP and hated the snow we got there.

I threw together some side by sides. Here is rough regions on vs it off. The map looks so much better with it off IMO.

I never really noticed but you are right it does look 'cleaner' with rough off.

I still like the 'cold on' better though.

When I first started playing WAW I of coarse just went with the default settings like most people I suspect. But after a few games I started to explore the  options menu and found a much better map underneath all that snow and rough crap. Why such an ugly choice was made the default setting is beyond me. Anyway, this topic was just to nudge some of you guys that are still playing with the old WAW defaults to give this other map option a chance. I'm very sure that once you play the game with both rough and cold unchecked you will never look back. Same goes for show British nationality and US uniquely. Maybe I'll make that another topic[:D]
