CHS Install???

Post by John 3rd »

Hello.

As the title states, I am installing a CHS version of the game. I will be doing this through the day and expect to have issues/questions to ask.

As I install Andrew's Extended Map, it keeps asking me if it should create a back-up folder. I push the yes button and nothing happens. Had this problem when I created my RHS Version and someone gave me instructions on how to fix it.

Could someone help with that again? I appreciate it.

I'm not familiar with Andrew B's installation utility but, if you don't get an answer on it, I could probably direct you on how to install the files manually if you want to try that.

It may be you already have a back up folder - if you have done this before. It does not matter UNLESS you want to switch between stock and CHS - and various art options - using a utility Andrew wrote.

Ideally you should not try to do CHS and RHS in the same installation - but dedicate an installation to each. CHS does permit switching back and forth with stock. I don't know if RHS will do that or not - with a new utility just written ? but it wasn't practical to fold in CHS or older RHS forms - for space reasons on most computers.

Hi John3d,

What Andrew’s install utility does is put a poopload of files, from a poopload of different folders, into a poopload of different backups.

CHS requires a CHS art set, with Stock backup, a CHS map set, with Stock backup, a CHS pwhex file, with Stock backup, and a CHS scenario set (no backup required so long as you can keep the scen numbers straight in your mind). ChS was originally devised to be a one-off from Stock, so the main exe folder and the backups were easy to account for (Stock or CHS). With the extended map, there was only one additional set of ‘map’ and ‘pwhex’ (and scen) files to account for. The “which do you choose” utilities were written with this assumption in mind.

If you aren’t a computer jock, I would seriously recommend that you do Andrews “dual install”. Full instructions available at http://www.bur.st/~akbrown/witp.html you gotta dig down a little. Andrew is extremely thorough; if you follow his instructions, you cannot go wrong.

If you still have no joy, re-post, and I’ll help you the best I can.

JWE--Thanks a lot.  I have seperate installs of WitP--Standard, WitP--Big B, WitP--RHS, and am trying to create a WitP--CHS folder.  Will check out the duel install info and see what happens.

I have heard of this problem occurring before, but I have never been able to reproduce it. Perhaps try the following:

- Ensure that you have a backup somewhere of the stock map art.
- Look to see whether there is a folder called "maps_official" in the ART folder. If there is one, look to see whether it contains a copy of the stock map art files.
- Try running the install again and say "no" if prompted to make a backup of the art.
- If it still doesn't work, then you may have to do a manual install.
