Synch issue not going away

Post by AirGriff »

I am currently on a PBEM, AB Extended map with the Big B mod. I have been out of synch almost the entire game (it is mid March '42). Have tried a variety of things to make the synch go away, mainly turning animations and combat reports off for several turns. Nothing helps.

I did recently notice in my preferences screen a message saying "Japanese player must install 1.60 version". My opponent says he already did. Could this be the source of the problem, and if so how do we fix it? Is it possible he loaded 1.8 without the 1.6 version somehow?

It's very aggravating being out of synch ALL the time. If anyone has any ideas, please speak up. Thanks.

Two reasons for synch issues.

(1) Difference versions of EXE

(2) Exiting animations during replay

Ah, I didn't know that one about exiting the animations. I do that alot. Many thanks for that tip.

Now, we both have the latest version--1.806 I think it is, but it's the latest I know that. Is is possible to not have the 1.60 updates incorporated in the latest changes?

I assume when you say EXE you are referring to the version of the game, yes?

Not if you did the 1.804 comprehensive upgrade...

The two most likely problems to cause replay/sync bug in my experience are
1) players don't have the same game version or map;
2) players are not rebooting before running the turn (junk in memory, esp. if WITP was running previously will screw up the replay in many cases).

Do you have to update each patch or can you just update to the latest one?

any old version ---> upgrade to 1.804 comprehensive, then upgrade to 1.806 (revised).

Many thanks. I will definitely look into all of this. Just to make certain I'm clear on you recomendations:

-do a full reboot of the computer after each turn
-do not hit escape or in any way exit the animation replays

The rest of it I get. Thanks again rtrapasso. Much appreciated.

Try having the japanese player send allied his pwhex.dat file.  That has worked for me every time.

*** BUT  ***

If you're running several PBEM games under same install, this could affect the other PBEM games (fix your replay bug in game A, and bork it in game B).

So if you've playing several games on the same install, I wouldn't just replace pwhex.dat.

I'd recommend a new install for the borked game, then copy in japan's pwhex.dat (and leave the original install alone).

Ah, would you mind translating all that for my computer illiterate brain. What is the pwhex.dat file, what does it do, where do I find it, and how do I stick it in the program?

That is the map file... should be somewhere in your WITP installation ... (i disremember exactly where - either in the main WITP folder, or more likely in the MAP folder)

If you can't find it by just looking, use the SEARCH function of your computer (start--> SEARCH --> put in the file name and tell it to search your main hard drive where you have your WITP intallation).
